Spreading Holiday Cheer

We finally found a "gift tree" at our local library with ages of kids to buy a holiday gift for. We had come across several drop off spots for toys, but nothing that was a tree with specific kids to buy for, and that's what I really wanted. (I guess I am picky?) I finally just decided to do this one.

We ended up getting two kids: one for a 0-2 year girl and the other is a 9-12 boy or girl. Obviously, the baby girl is super easy for us to do, but I am stuck on the 9-12 year old. It says toys only on the tag, so what do you buy in that age range? All my ideas so far wouldn't work - I guess a DVD doesn't fall under toys, and I worry that some cartoon characters might upset a parent. A Webkin maybe? Would they be bored with a board game? Or Legos?

If anyone has any suggestions I would LOVE to hear it! (Help!)

What about a diary or a stationary set with High School Musical, I love Carly or Hannah Montana?

Such a nice way to celebrate the holidays with charity

This game looks like a ton of fun. I am thinking about getting it for my 7 year old!!

OR

a cheap digital camera... they have them all over.

OR

a craft kit... something where they can make/paint their own bird house, hat, bag.. etc.

Good luck, and thank you for doing this for some children! I am sure that it will mean a lot to them to get something under the tree for the holidays. There are so many of us who do not have the money to contribute, however, those of us that can are keeping the spirit alive.

It is so hard to see the trees so full this year and families struggling to make ends meet.

Warm Blessings.

A model that they boy would have to put together. Like a car or plane, Anything science like a microscope kit (you can get them at WalMart or Target and they are not too expensive), puzzle books, or the Guniess book of world records.
What a wonderful thing you are doing and teaching your kids!
