Mail I Don't Like!

No, I'm not talking about bills - although, I don't like those either!

Today we received a notice from the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office notifying us that a Level 3 sex offender, convicted of assaulting children, has moved in down the street. They even state that he is at high risk for re-offending.

As a mother and as a woman, this bristles me. I mean big time, BRISTLES! I'm sorry if I offend anyone - but if you're convicted of child molestation (and you're not an 18 year getting busted for knocking up your 16 about to be 17 year old girlfriend) merely being put behind bars for a few months or years isn't enough. When is this country going to wake up and do something about it? How come the sentence for first time sex crimes is on par with smoking pot?

Would someone please tell me how come Martha Stewart had to wear an ankle alarm and this guy doesn't??? Um, if you're considered high risk for molesting a child again, you should be supervised 24/7 as you are still sick and can harm others, just like anyone placed in a psychiatric home.

I am so upset right now. At least he's not moving in across the street from me, but he's still moving across or next to someone else who more than likely has children or grandchildren!

NO ALARM... YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME?!?!? Can you fight it...

Honestly I would move. My hubby is not home a lot. I am a single married mother with 2 kids.

There is something weird about that. Here if they have a chance of re-offending they are sent to a hospital then in many years they put them near prisons out in the middle of no where watched.

I really hope the county looks into this. That sucks

There's a meeting Tuesday night, but they say it is just to discuss it, and that we can't say anything to him, as it's harrasment!

We actually have been discussing moving, and this is the final nail in the coffin.

I'd be FUMING mad if that was going on in my neighbourhood... I wouldn't feel safe, taking the girls outside at all be it if he was down the street or even around the corner.... I'd be furious...

What a crappy situation. It seems so unfair that you should have to be the one to consider moving (although since you were considering it anyway, maybe it's a nice push...)

I talked to a gentleman once who had a very sweet friendly dog. The dog greeted folks who walked past their house, but never barked at them or chased them. When a new man started walking by, the dog went ballistic, snarling and growling and trying to chase him. He kept apologizing to this man, telling him he'd never seen his dog behave that way before. He got a letter similar to the one you received the very next week...

That is so wrong. Thanks for the provocative post. It seems like there should be more protections.

Hey, I missed this on my last visit.... that must have been distressing to get a letter like that. We don't get told in the UK... I reckon in this case ignorance is bliss... seriously. I'd rather not know! I watch my kids like a hawk anyway.

I don't know... I mean... I reckon it's a little like suicide. If they're going to do it there's not much that can stop them, an ankle/wrist band can only do so much... but yes, it is a start.

The whole conviction rate/sentencing thing for child molestation and rape in general is absolutely laughable.

Argh!

I hope you get to move soon...

Unfortunately we live in a sick, sick world. They should not be able to be free (or alive in my opinion) let alone live anywhere near children at all. I don't know if you can live anywhere far from them anymore since they let them freely walk the streets so much these days. I've looked online for my area and was really surprised at how many there are and not far away at all either!
