Can Two People Eat On $67 A Week?

I'm going to gather that 90% of the people reading this are going, um yeah?

And I'm totally with you. When I landed on this article at the LA Times, I got a giggle out of it. (Go on, go read it - I'll be right here when you're done)

Is the concept of actually GASP buying our food on sale and maybe using a few coupons here and there just so foreign to folks nowadays?

I don't really consider myself a heavy coupon user. (I go in cycles, if there's a really great deal then I become a major player LOL) I think I use on average 2-3 coupons most shopping trips. However, my shopping trips are planned around what's on sale that week, and I stock up. According to my DH we eat like Kings and Queens. ;) While what I buy isn't 100% organic like I get the feeling the folks included in the story are, we still eat pretty healthy over here without spending a fortune. ($700?! Even with all the critter food, I don't think we're even close!)

So how about you? Can you make it on $67 a week for two people, or $134 a week for four?

These articles are really getting to be ridiculous. Like none of us thought to buy stuff on sale or use coupons? Please!

If it's not on sale or I don't have a coupon, it doesn't go in my cart. Period. I stock up like crazy when stuff is on sale. I probably look like a loon with 16 boxes of cereal in my cart, but I don't care. When it's cheap, I buy it. And, I use coupons to make it even cheaper. The thing that cracks me up is that the kids will tell me we are low on cereal when we have 3 boxes left.

The funny thing is that there are people that would say no, they can not live on $67 a week for two. In my case, we have managed to work it to where our meals cost us on average $70 per week. That's for a family of seven!

I cannot get over how many people still seem to honestly believe that if you aren't spending hundreds of dollars a month on food that you're starving to death or that you're eating nothing but junk food. As a nation, we're remarkably out of touch...thanks for the link to the article! :)

I have to go with Savvy Mom on this one.

I feed a family of eight on approx: 100$ a week. And those are healthy meals, etc.

I used to believe this wasn't possible, however, I've learned very quickly that it's easier than it sounds!

700$ a month? I'd have pantries packed to the brim!
