Some readers may think I'm nuts (we've already established I'm a little psychotic)
Some readers may think nothing bad will ever happen to them.
Some readers may think they have enough food in their pantry and can go to the store whenever they want because they have snow tires and four wheel drive, so who cares?
And I hope that maybe, just maybe, some readers end up better prepared for whatever life throws there way.
Because I don't want you to end up on the side of the road in a snow storm freezing to death.
Because I don't want you to watch in horror as your house burns down and you're not sure your entire family is out.
Because I don't want you to be panicking as a hurricane is about to hit and you have less than an hour to evacuate.
Because I don't want any of you or your kids to suffer like this:

And that's why I try to remind you to have your papers put together, a plan to evacuate with different situations, and a way to cook if the power is out and the weather's too bad to leave the house.
And because I don't want my family to be traumatized like that either, I keep my smoke alarm batteries charged, a change of clothes in the car, and a few extra cans of shelf stable goods in my cabinets.
It's why I carry an extra diaper or two in odd sizes in my diaper bag, so if I run into you in the bathroom at the mall, and you're out, I can share.
