Review & Giveaway: Protect-A-Bed

My allergies and asthma over the last year have become horrible. I've ended up with multiple trips to urgent care, I'm stuck using inhalers on a daily basis, and I've been just plain miserable a lot of days.

I try to keep the pets out of the bedroom, except for the Pudgy Princess (she doesn't like to sleep on the bed, anyways), I swiffer every day, and I wash the sheets in hot water like what's been recommended to me. It doesn't help with the scary mattress though. Thinking about the amount of dust mites and allergens that are probably lurking in any mattress, even if you have one that's only a year old? I think that's the stuff nightmares can be made of! It's estimated two million dust mites can thrive in an unprotected mattress. (excuse me, I have to go take a shower now!)

I had tried a conventional basic dust mite cover for my pillow, but I really haven't been impressed. It's thin and icky feeling, and I'm not sure it has made much a difference.

Now I was really impressed when the Premium Mattress Protector from Protect A Bed arrived - it's incredibly soft and plush - you can almost sleep on it without a bed sheet it's that nice. It's a very soft terry material:

And it's whole different world from the cover I bought for my pillow at Target. It's a fitted sheet style that easily slips on the bed, and it's stretchable to fit any depth of mattress. It's also waterproof and machine washable (it fits easily into my top loading washer), so there's no worries about leaky diapers when co-sleeping (This would also make it great for an elderly person or even while potty training) The terry cloth makes it breathable, unlike a lot of other mattress protectors that cause you to sweat and itch.

According to their website, the Protect-A-Bed Premium mattress protector offers their unique Miracle Membrane with the Total Heat Transference Formula. The Miracle Membrane provides a breathable, cool and comfortable barrier that dust mites and other allergens cannot pass through.

While I can't guarantee it was because of the Protect-A-Bed cover, I've had a lot less nighttime asthma-related issues since I've been using it. I'm definitely happy with it!

Protect-A-Bed offers products from crib size on up to a California King size. They also have pillow protectors, and box spring encasements available to securely help protect your bedroom from allergens and dustmites.

Win it! The folks over at Protect-A-Bed have generously offered one of my readers their own Premium mattress cover. To enter, let us know if you have any allergy & asthma sufferers in your household, and visit Protect-A-Bed's website, look around, and tell us which other product and size besides the Premium mattress protector would be useful in your home.

I have one of these Protect-A-Bed covers, and I just want to say that the company is awesome. When we opened the package, the zipper had a couple of damaged or defective teeth, so it couldn't be zipped properly. I sent an e-mail and they immediately shipped a replacement. That's really standing by your product, and I respect and appreciate that!

My husband has serious allergies, which is why we wanted to try the Protect-A-Bed mattress protector.

I wish I could have mattress covers for all the beds, because when the cats need to throw up, they always try to make it to the bed!

The Protect-A-Bed HealthSheet mattress protector also sounds like an excellent product. It's made from 100% natural eucalyptus fibers which makes it cool in the summer and warm in winter. We have another queen size bed in the spare room where overnight guests (and grandkids) sleep, so this protector would be great in there. I forgot to say I have asthma and allergies and would love to have a really good mattress protector.

Another product I would be interested in would be the HealthSheet Pillow Protectors. I've dealt with asthma all my life and anything that can cut down on the number of days I have trouble just simply breathing is well worth the investment.
