Thrifty Thursday - Mattress Shopping

This week's Thrifty Thursday post is about buying a new mattress!

You spend the most time in your life asleep in your bed (or at least, trying to sleep, right Moms?) A proper mattress should be one of the biggest investments for each member of your family.

The biggest thing to remember is to shop around. Try not to make this a marathon shopping even where you decide to buy a mattress and do it within 24 hours of your decision - chances are, you'll miss out on a great deal.

If you find a sale you like, go armed with any sale ads, including other stores. Often stores such as Macy's or Sears have great sales on mattresses three or four times a year - check these out, and take the ads with you to other stores and see if they will price match.

Don't be afraid to ask. If they can't give you a better price, perhaps they know a great sale is coming up in two weeks. You can always wait until then to purchase it!

If you have your heart set on a set, and they won't price match, see if you can get delivery and removal of your old set for free. Unless you have a set younger than 5 years and are just getting a bigger size, always ask for free removal of your old mattresses. Most mattresses have a life span of arund 10 years, so free cycling it isn't always the greatest thing to do. However, free cycling the old set is better than having an extra mattress set out in your garage or up in your attic, so keep that in mind as an option.

Some stores will even give you credit towards new sheets, or new pillows.
