The Dangers of Costco

Originally I wasn't going to renew our Costco membership, but it turns out - they auto-renew unless you tell them not to! Sneaky, aren't they? So after two weeks of trying to figure out where I put my membership card because, yes, I'm unorganized (hey, at least I admit it!) we headed off to Costco to at least use it since we're paying for it.

Now I usually purchase large cans because by the time you make a batch of chili in your slow cooker for instance, and a batch of homemade pasta sauce the next night, cans such as diced tomatoes are used up quickly.

But I think DH has gotten a little too happy with the idea of large food packages.

Way too happy.

I am now the proud owner of a 50 lb bag of bread flour.

50 freaking pounds.

That was in my cart faster than you can say WAIT! to my DH. I needed flour, but that much?!

That's a lot of pizza and homemade biscuits.

And no, the bag doesn't fit into the Ziploc Big Bags, and the only food grade bucket I have is full of rice, and definitely not big enough anyways for all that flour!

You know the I Love Lucy episode where she's covered in flour while working in that bakery? There's me! LOL

Oh. My. WORD.
I don't think I've seen that much flour in one bag. Your set for winter. Hokie doodle!

I buy in bulk, but I've never gotten that adventurous. Lol!

If I were you I'd divide it into ziplock bags. I read somewhere that you should freeze it for 48 hours, to kill any weevils, take them out of the freezer for 2 weeks or so, then refreeze again for 48 hours if any eggs hatched. Sounds gross, but I've done the always done the freezing thing with the different types of flour I buy and I've never had bugs. Knock on wood.

Can I ask how much that bag of bread flour was? I've been thinking I should buy a big bag like that. Then maybe I'd bake bread more often. Bread flour is so expensive in the 5 lb bags.

OMG! What on EARTH will you do with that? I hope you don't get bugs in that big bag. Sometimes I get those little bugs in flour so I keep it in the fridge. I'm thinking your bag won't fit in there! :)
