It's evening long entertainment! Many play two movies for the cost of one ticket, making it a great value. You can bring the whole family, depending on the movies played, of course. Most drive-ins have playground areas where the kids can play until the first movie starts at dusk. And unlike most conventional theaters, you are able to bring your own food in, making it even more economical. Of course, most drive-ins still have a snack area where you can purchase the usual movie snacks for the total experience if you wish.
A few tips for attending a drive-in:
Find out if the theater pipes in music through your car radio or through radio posts outside the car before you attend. If it's through your car radio, make sure you have your car jumper cables in the car just in case you need it, or have AAA in your cell phone address book if you use them. Depending on the movie lengths and your car battery's length, it may not start back up right away.
Have blankets and pillows to keep warm and comfortable. Most drive-ins allow you to bring lawn chairs in to watch the movie in front of your vehicle, so bring those along too if you want. Some die-hards even load their sofa into the back of their trucks to bring along and watch the show on!
Get there early to grab the prime spots in the middle of the screen. On the weekends, many drive-in sell out fast!
Bring a flashlight with you in case you need to go to the bathroom during the movie. There will be no lighting for you to make your way to it or to the concession stand during the show. This is extremely important especially if you are bringing the kids along!
If you are taking the kids along, bring books or car appropriate games for them to play while waiting for the movie or if they get bored during the show.
Check the weather. Remember, some of the movies may not end until 11 (or 1-2 in the morning for the second feature) and it will start to get cold sitting in your vehicle or outside watching the show. Bring jackets or sweatshirts for later in the evening, or blankets to snuggle in the car.
Over here right outside of Port Orchard, we have the Rodeo Drive-In. It's the only drive-in in Kitsap County, and it's been open since 1949! Adult admissions cost $8.00, children 5 and up are $5, and under the age of 5 get in free!

Sadly, the nearest drive-in is over an hour away and the one that was in my near my hometown closed. We did manage to bring the kids there once so they did have a chance to see what it was like.
There is an old shut-down drive-in 10 minutes from my house. I swear if I ever win the lottery I'm going to refurbish it and re-open it.
Drive-in's were just so much fun. Not just when we were little, but as teens too.
What a fun thing to do. There is one in my town and we have been wanting to go forever and still have not. We should soon! :D
There is a drive-in movie theatre about 1 hour away from me. We took the kids a couple of years ago. It was fun! My hometown had a drive-in but it closed years ago. I am going to put the drive-in on my summer to do list. Thanks!
We don't have any drive-ins in England which I hate because I love the idea of them! That's something for my bucket list!
I'm near Lola and there isn't a Drive-in around anywhere! Sad, eh? I remember going as a kid and I wish my kids had the chance to go to one.
So now I want to go to the drive-ins. I have know idea where there is one around here :(
My dream is open a drive in theater, I've never been to one and it seems so fantastic!! I'm jealous :)
I love the drive in! My parents took us when we were kids and Mom would pack a picnic. We'd have a late supper while watching the movies. I used to take my kids when they were little, and now they occasionally take their kids!
It's a great fun, family activity!
