If you're not an animal person, you may want to back out of this post slowly. I won't be offended. ;)
I've been looking on Craigslist the last couple of days, and I probably shouldn't be, because I have never seen so many STUPID people in my life. Here's one:
My boyfriend is making me give away my pets please e mail.
Honey, I hate to break it to you, but if he doesn't like animals, and you have 5 pets, he's not the right man for you. No man that loves you would ever ask you to get rid of your pets. And he's your boyfriend, not your husband - so who cares what he thinks? What is wrong with you girls today???
Here's another one:
I just found out I'm pregnant, and my husband is about to leave for Iraq. I can't clean the litterbox, so I'm trying to find a new home for our cat.
There is SO much misinformation out there about this issue! Yes, toxoplasmosis is a real threat, but it's easily avoided - it's called latex gloves, and washing your hands when you're done. Clean the litterbox out on a daily basis, or get one of those nifty new self cleaning litterboxes, and you don't have to worry about it. If you're cat is indoors only, and has been all it's life, again, the risk is slim to none. If you're panicking, wear a medical mask. You can order a box online with 50 of them for less than $20, and that should get you through most of your pregnancy.
And how about this one:
We're moving out of state and can't take our pets along. We have to find them a home right now. If no one wants them we will drop them at the shelter.
You've had your pets for years, and now you looked for a place to rent that doesn't allow pets? 1 out of every 2 apartments allow pets, how hard is it to choose one that does? And don't tell me the trip is too much for your pets - we did it with 2 cats and one dog, and it's over 2000 miles. Grow up people!
And the best one, on a corgi that was dumped at a shelter in Wyoming, and given up for chasing livestock - Congratulations, you're the idiot of the year. Corgi's are HERDING dogs, they are bred to chase and herd livestock!

we adopted a husky from a shelter. She's a beautiful dog, 5 years old at the time. She had just been tied up to the front door. I always wondered the story behind it. I could NEVER figure out why anyone would do it. She's a wonderful dog...and it's such a heartless way I think to just dump your pet like that.
I can't believe how people are so selfish when it comes to animals. They have feelings too and they get attached. Why get animals if your going to get rid of them?
UGH! Some people just don't get it... sigh.
I can't imagine our home w/o our beloved dogs... and blue fish!

everytime i read the craigslist pets section i get so sad and irritated as well! i also hate the we need to move to another location and can't take our pet with us as well as the we're going to have a baby and don't want the pets to give the baby allergies... it's like... hey, when your kids or any other family members get inconvenient do you try to give them away? didn't think so!! i also cringe at the free ads... that's when mean people and labs may pursue the ad and put the animals in a dangerous situation... i'm glad you wrote this entry... now i don't feel alone!
Those are really sad ads...
I read about toxoplasmosis a while back, you know cleaning out the litterbox thoroughly once a day eliminates the risk because the things that are shed in the poop take over a day to become infectious...
My mum's cats absolutely adored me when I visited when I was pregnant! I think it was the milky boobs. Her older cat drooled all over them! The pervert..

With the litter box push comes to shove just buy the disposable liners, fill the box with very little litter, put on gloves and toss the liner out I did that when my kittens I found on the porch had worms ewww and you never have to touch anything!
My parents had a dog come to the house and plant himself on the stoop, he had tags and when my dad called the person on the other line replied "oh yea we dumped him on that high way must be near your house, we don't want him". Oh wow, and you left the tags on, poor guy. My dad took them to court LOL we kept the dog, he was a boarder collie and a real sweetie!
My wonderful Tiggy cat, he was dumped by someone across the canal because he wasn't quite a year old and had started to spray.... Neutered him and have had him 7 years now he's a good boy.
The rest of my cats were Ferrell cats that I found and socialized and then my neighbors helped out with neutering the cats on the street no kittens for 5 years now :)
I couldn't agree with you more! I'll be moving to a bigger city soon and I am looking at rental places that accepts pets! You may have to pay a deposit for pets, but since they are a part of my family, I don't mind at all!!
Some people are so STUUUPID!!! COME ON, PEOPLE!!! URGH, makes me angry!
