The Laundry Corner Debut
Welcome, to the first installment of Friday's Laundry Corner. I get a LOT of Google searches from folks trying to find answers to their laundry disasters, as well as looking for reviews and information on different laundry products. Some even email me and ask me! So here it goes: I, Storm the Psychotic Housewife, will attempt answer your laundry questions, help you fix your laundry boo-boo's, and help you spend your laundry product money wisely. ;)
Got a question you want answered? Leave it in the comments or email it to me.
So this week I've got 2 for you:
bounce dryer bar vs purex 3 in 1
You can read my Bounce Dryer Bar review here and my Purex 3 in 1 review here. I'll start this off by saying both are very different products, to me anyways. Both do help with convenience, but the dryer bar is just the dryer sheet - whereas the Purex 3-in-1 is laundry detergent, softener, and anti-static. They don't really compete with each other in my mind. If I could only use one out of the two? *thinks* I'd probably go for the Purex 3-in-1. I really like not having to measure anything.
how do you bleach white pants turned pink in the wash
First, I'll say it depends on the fabric itself. Check your fabric content (cotton? silk? If it's delicate fabric, I hate to say it but the party is over unless you dye it a dark color) Does the tag say Do Not Bleach? You might want to do a bleach test on an inside seam just to be sure regardless (1 teaspoon of bleach to 1/8 cup of water) If you can, mix the bleach and HOT water in a bucket, or use the tub, and let the fabric soak awhile. You may need to change the mix out several times depending on how severe the pink color is. Be aware that no matter what the fabric label says, leaving your clothes in the bleach mix can weaken the fabric over time - no matter what they tell you on the bleach bottles and product websites. The sooner you start the fixing process, the better! Don't wait! Follow up in the washer with a quality laundry detergent with the cycle on hot. If it still looks pinkish, start the process over. Do not put the garment in the dryer!
There is also a product called Rit Dye Remover. Target and WalMart should carry them, in your fabric care aisle. I would actually try this before I try the bleach. It's a little more pricey, but it would be a bit more gentle on the fabric. Now if it's a 100% cotton t-shirt and not pants, I'd go straight to the bleach.
