Recipe: Garlic Cheese Biscuits

These are super quick to make, and very budget friendly, especially if you cut out the cheese. (I'd use regular salt then, instead of the garlic salt) You can also add herbs like rosemary, basil, oregano instead - fresh if you have it, or dried. Some folks don't like shortening, but I've found it valuable for recipes like this. I found the original over at Hillbilly Housewife years ago, and modified it. (because you know me, I can't follow an original recipe to save my life! lol)

2 cups of flour
2 tablespoons garlic salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1 cup milk
1/2 cup - 1 cup cheese

Mix the floor, garlic salt, and sugar together in the bowl and drop in the shortening. Mix it with your hands (messy, I know - food service gloves come in handy here!), but don't over mix it - you just don't want large clumps of shortening in it.

Next, add in the cheese and milk. (pardon the mountain of extra cheese in the photo, but mine was at the use it or dump it date) Stir well. You may need just a little extra milk depending on the weather that day (weird, isn't it?) but again, don't over do it.

These are drop biscuits, and you need the mix to end up looking like this:

Grease a cookie sheet well and preheat the oven to 425. Make drop biscuits about the size of what you'd like to serve (smaller for the kids, bigger for adults) and bake for 15 minutes. (ignore the ugly baking sheet as I still haven't fond my new ones)

And you'll have this:

Cheap and quick! These can be ready on the baking sheet in less than 5 minutes - easy peasy!

I also have found many great, cheap recipes at Hillbilly Housewife dot com.
