Food Storage Friday - The First Edition

With rising prices, bad weather, unstable job environments, one of the best things we as women (or men) in charge of our homes can do, is work on our food storage to ensure our family will continue to eat well no matter what the circumstance is. It doesn't take a lot to organize your pantry and make a little room for extras, and with the help of coupons and sales, can be done very cheaply. Every Friday, I'd like to encourage you to join in with me to do one or two little things to add to or work with your food storage.

To start off, I'm going to go through our cabinets and make sure nothing is past the expiration date. If I have bought something that I don't think we'll be using, I plan to donate it to the local food bank (provided it's before the Use By date, of course!) I hope you'll join me and do the same!

If you're feeling extra motivated, I plan to write the expiration/use by date on the top of all the cans or at the top of boxes in dark Sharpie so I can easily see if it's something I need to use ASAP. I'll also be organizing it by the Use By date on the shelf. (cans of soup that expire the next few months on the front rows, etc)

What a wonderful idea. I don't have time today to start in, but perhaps I can join you with this next week.

Great idea! I hate when I find stuff past the exp. date.
