Giveaway: Yoplait Lids Save Lives

Did you know that according to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer within her lifetime?

That's a pretty frightening statistic to me! I think I've mentioned this several times before, but if you're new here: my grandmother is a breast cancer survivor. Back in 2002, she was diagnosed, thankfully before the verdict could be even more dire, and today she is one of the lucky ones - cancer free. It's incredibly important that we do the best we can to get rid of cancers in our lives: by proper screening, eating well, limiting chemical consumptions and exposures, etc!

Just like in past years, Yoplait will have their special pink lids during the month of October. You can join in the fight against breast cancer: for pink lid us folks mail in by December 31, 2009, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, up to $1.5 million, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $500,000. You can also visit YourLidMatters.com and create teams of lid collectors with your friends and family for extra motivation. (I know last year I was guilty of saving the lids, and then forgetting to mail them in :( )

Win it! One lucky reader will win this gift package provided by MyBlogSpark, just like the one I was given: it has a coupon for a free YoPlait YoPlus yogurt package (see my review here), a pretty breast cancer awareness bracelet, and a leather jewelry case with the Yoplait logo on it. To enter: go ahead and answer any or all of the following questions:

How has breast cancer affected your life - has you or a loved one fought a battle with it?
Do you get mammograms as recommended?
Do you perform a monthly self breast exam?

As always, you can receive extra entries for:

-Subscribing to my feed or following my blog
-Blogging about this giveaway with a link back
-Tweeting about this giveaway (leave the link or @psychotichouse me)
-Add my blog to your Technorati favs (leave your username)

That's five possible entries! Giveaway ends October 24th at 11:59 PM PST, and please leave your email address in your entry or have it available in your profile. US only, sorry :( Good luck everyone!! :)

I hve not had a mamogram in the lst 4 years. I need to get one scheduled. I do not have insurance so I need to see if they are offering any free ones in my area. Hoping to have insurance by the end of the year though!

I have never gotten a mammogram. I'm only 39, so my insurance won't cover it til I'm 40, which I think is silly! But alas...as for monthly self-exams, I do so-so. I need to work on that.

Breast cancer has not affected our lives personally. We do not know anyone who has had it, but we do donate to the cause regularly so that before it has a chance to affect someone we know, maybe there will be a cure already discovered.

I don't get regular mammograms yet. There is no family history of them and I'm 28. I do perform monthly self-exams and of course, my doctor performs a breast exam once a year as well.

Thanks for the giveaway and for raising awareness!

I lost my mom to breast cancer when I was 16 and she was 38. I started getting mammograms at 30. In fact I had to change doctors because mine said he wouldn't authorize until I was 35.

The first gyno appointment I went to, I was 17, and my doctor, who I later found out was in a rush and overscheduled that day, only did a breast exam on one of my breats, so I was convinced that you only needed to check one for awhile after that. Im glad someone informed that was wrong.

I have never been affected by breast cancer. My husband lost a cousin to breast cancer a few years ago, though. I am still considered too young to get mamograms. But I was diagnosed with Melenoma this year. Fortunately all I needed was surgery, but due to my age and where it was, the doctors are going to have to keep a close eye on me for thenext 5 years. Thank you
