Thrifty Thursday - Unadvertised Markdowns
This week for my Thrifty Thursday post, I'm reminding you to take advantage of those unadvertised sales!
Let me use my score last week as an example: while shopping at Safeway, I found packages of steaks marked down to 50% off the sale price, making them $1.25- $1.35 a package! I bought all 6 to stock up my freezer. Fred Meyer's had a bunch of 1 pound sausage rolls marked down to 99 cents each - I bought all 17 they had left. Between those scores, and my stock up of Albertson's boneless chicken at $1.88 a pound a few weeks back, for just under $40, I had meat for the next few months!
So when you see great deals like that, stock up on as much as you can! Like me, you may have to swing some of your grocery money around and skip buying other things, but the savings can really add up. This works with some fresh fruits and veggies too! Simply cut and prepare items such as peppers, onions, berries, etc, into portions for meals. Not only are you saving money, but you are also saving meal prep time.
Breads can also be easily frozen, though when it comes to sliced breads, sometimes they are best saved for being toasted after you bring them out of the freezer. Milk can also be frozen - simply use about an inch worth, and freeze. Allow to completely thaw before using, and just shake well. Cans and boxed packages - buy as many as you can use before the Use By date!
Don't forget to use coupons when you can too on those markdowns for even greater savings!

I love when I get the bargains at Safeway. The other night I got 3 family packs of the healthy options or whatever the Safeway brand is called for 50% off! We have vineson in the freezer as well. I am always looking for a good buy on ground beef though.
This is how i shop every week and the #1 reason I spend so little on groceries. Also, Costco will do markdowns like this, too! We picked up giant two packs of Oscar Meyer bologna for $3 a few days ago!
I love finding marked down meat.... one of the stores I shop at keeps a small freezer in the meat dept. and drops it in there after they mark it down... I always head for that freezer first thing.
A Lil Enchanted,
