DVD Review & Giveaway: The Marvelous Adventures of FlapJack Volume 1

My family and I recently received a copy of the DVD The Marvelous Adventures of FlapJack Volume 1.



The Marvelous Adventures of FlapJack is an animated cartoon show seen on Cartoon Network. It features a boy named Flapjack, who is taken care of by Bubbie, a talking whale. They, along with a pirate named K'nuckles, live in Stormalong Harbor, and are obsessed with adventures (or misadventures in this show's case) and are obsessed with finding an island called "Candied Island". As you can probably guess... they're obsessed with candy, too. Candy is the treasure in this world!

The Marvelous Adventures of FlapJack Volume 1 features five episodes: "Several Leagues Under the Sea/Eye Sea You", "Kid Nickels/The Sweet Life", "Several Leagues Above The Sea/That's A Wrap!", "Cammie Island/Shave and a Haircut...Two Friends", and "Skooled/Snared". It also includes four special features: Adventures in Voice Acting, Adventures in Animation, Misadventures in Song, and Meet Thurop.

The Marvelous Adventures of FlapJack Volume 1 is more geared towards boys, ages 6 to 14. That being said, I personally would steer away from allowing my under 10 child to see it. The sense of humor in the episodes comes off as being rather disturbing at moments, and I can't exactly say that K'Nuckles is the best role model. (If my DH actually says some of the humor moments are disturbing, that kind of says something to me, since he thinks I over-react lol) At first I was reminded of Spongebob, but that was quickly lost. (Spongebob is far more funny to me) Bubbie was the best part of the show. We love our pirates in this home, but this is one DVD I'm not in a hurry to play again for us.

If you don't mind the humor, and you've got older boys, I assume this might be more of a hit in your home.

The Marvelous Adventures of FlapJack Volume 1 was released on October 20, 2009, and retails for $14.99 - though Amazon currently has it for just $10.49.
