The Ultimate Cloth is a re-useable strong cloth that cleans green - they say you don't have to use chemicals, only water to clean just about anything - even cars and brake grease. They say even your windows are supposed to come out streak free, no cleaners needed. The Ultimate Cloth has been lab tested to remove 96% of bacteria, without the use of pesky, nasty chemicals. You can hand wash it, or for really grimy times, just toss it in the washer (but with no fabric softener!) and let it line dry. It's bleachable too!
I loved that the company behind The Ultimate Cloth is a family run business.
My first thought - you mean I could clean one handed? No lugging around a bottle of cleaner around my kitchen? They had me at using it in place of a wet Swiffer cloth - I'm trying to cut back on the amount of Swiffer refills I buy. I'm pretty much stuck on the dry cloths (the amount of fur I pick up is unreal - I simply can't get enough of the fur shaken off to put it through my washer and dryer) but if I could easily replace the wet ones? I was totally game! (Even if I was pretty much skeptical)
So when The Ultimate Cloth arrived, I decided to go easy on it, and try it out on cleaning my counters, sink, and faucet. Here's what it looked like when I was done:
Nasty, isn't it? I swear my counters weren't that dirty! Now to clean it, I decided to hand wash it. (I used Dawn) It came out looking like this:
So basically, if you want it back to being whiter, you're going to have to bleach it or at the very least, run it through the washer. (For those of you who also have older or slightly older top loading washer, if you run a small vinegar load once every couple of weeks, I'd suggest you wash it with that)
My next test was the Swiffer test. Yep, my skepticism was still there. Sure, it was great on the counters, but the traffic my floor gets? If I don't clean it every day, it's NASTY. I mean NASTY! I wet it, wrung it as instructed, and I ended up with a pretty clean floor, and no streaky water marks. Plus, my floor dried a heck of a lot faster than it does with the wet Swiffer refills. (*Now as much as I like the Ultimate Cloth, I'll still keep a package of the disposable wet Swiffers sheets for the super icky times where I'm not tempting the germ issue. Keep in mind I have 8 pets running my floor, plus the munchkin. Disgusting fluids happen!)
The mirror also came out streak free, and no sign of lint like I get with paper towels. I wish I had stainless steel appliances to give it a try on, but I don't, so I can't tell you if it does end up streak free too.
I used it daily for over two weeks, and it hasn't fallen apart yet.
The Ultimate Cloth retails for about $6.00 - cheaper in quantities, so it's not that bad to pick up 5 at $20, and use those throughout the week, washing them all together. Comparing to the cost of refills over time, it's certainly a good deal.
So if you're looking for a little more environmentally friendly way to do some cleaning, you might want to try The Ultimate Cloth. I personally would buy several, so you aren't spreading germs from place to place when cleaning though. (use one for the counter, then a second one to wipe the fridge, etc) It might remove 96% of bacteria, but the bacteria doesn't exactly stay glued to the cloth when cleaning, if you know what I mean.
*Disclaimer: Yep, I received an Ultimate Cloth. These are my opinions after putting it to the test in my own home.
