I admit, I always love losing myself in a historical novel. I enjoy romance novels, but I don't need a play by play, if you know what I mean. ;) For this reason, I enjoy Ms. Coble's novels - they are usually full of mystery with a little bit of religion and romance tossed in. Nothing overbearing, so even if you aren't of the Christian faith, you'll usually enjoy her books if you enjoy time period books.
The Lightkeeper's Daughter is the first book in the new Mercy Falls series, and is set in 1907. The main character is Addie Sullivan, who lives in a Northern California lighthouse. After her father passes away, she struggles with it, and with her unhappy mother, until one night during a storm, an injured stranger appears. This stranger insists she actually is a completely different person, having been taken away as a small child from her real family. Up until this part, the book is a little slow, but it really starts to pick up when Addie goes to visit the family she's never known, the Eatons. She becomes a governess to a little boy, and starts to have feelings for his widowed father, and the mystery of her past begins to unravel. Both her faith and love for John (the boys father, and whom she marries) are tested - I mean, really tested when she finds out some horrible secrets about her family.
The Lightkeeper's Daughter by Colleen Coble retails for $14.99 in trade paperback copy. (oversized paperback) Amazon has it for $10.19 at the moment, but Christian Book, a site I highly recommend, has it a little cheaper at $9.99. (of course, shipping comes into play)
I received a copy of this book to write my opinion.
