DVD Review & Giveaway - Ben 10: Alien Swarm

If you have a boy, unless you curtail your TV viewing, chances are, you've heard about Ben 10. Ben 10 is one of THE most watched cartoon shows by young boys right now. (I'd almost call it the young boy equivalent of Twilight, but I think Twilight has now moved into it's own tier, that's for sure)

Now there's a live action movie called Ben 10: Alien Swarm! It premiered on Cartoon network over Thanksgiving weekend, but just came out on DVD this past week. If you need a stocking stuffer movie for the 6-11 year old boy in your life, this it IT.


Ben 10: Alien Swarm is based on the cartoon, following main character Ben Tennyson (played by Ryan Kelley) as he leaves the Plumbers, the organization that battles all the alien forces. Joined by his cousin Gwen and friend Kevin, they are helping Elena, whose disgraced father is missing, uncover one of those pesky alien threats to the world.


A lot of the time when a cartoon makes the jump to live action, it leaves you well... unfulfilled. While seeing favorite characters "live" vs "animated" can take a little bit of getting used to for kids, this new Ben 10 clearly makes a good jump and is easy to follow along. It does have some scary moments and violence as it's an action film, but the language is thankfully ok, and not really any inappropriate moments to worry about. The effects are actually pretty cool, even from an adult standpoint - it's a movie Mom or Dad can sit down and watch with your (older) kids and not get too bored, making it an OK choice for family movie night.
