Food Storage Friday - Rice & Pasta
With rising prices, bad weather, unstable job environments, one of the best things we as women (or men) in charge of our homes can do, is work on our food storage to ensure our family will continue to eat well no matter what the circumstance is. It doesn't take a lot to organize your pantry and make a little room for extras, and with the help of coupons and sales, can be done very cheaply. Every Friday, I'd like to encourage you to join in with me to do one or two little things to add to or work with your food storage.
Did you get a chance to clear out anything expired from your pantry over the last week? I use this occasion to make a list of what I am running low on, so if I run across any unexpected markdowns and sales, I can take advantage of them. And did you get a chance to stock up on anything from the Thanksgiving sales?
I added two extra jars of peanut butter that were on sale for 99 cents each. I also picked up a couple of cans of Chicken of the Sea tuna that was on sale for 50 cents.
This week, I'd like to encourage you to pick up an extra package of rice or pasta. Both are very versatile and can be added to many dishes. They are also easy to store, and usually are good for up to 2 years from when you buy them. (as always, watch the dates just in case)

OMG peanut butter for 99 cents? Unheard of!
Great, great tips. I have a big plastic tub with some canned goods and pasta for emergencies, but I need to go through it and make sure nothing has expired, and replenish. Good reminder!
