Review & Giveaway: Progresso High Fiber Homestyle Minestrone

MyBlogSpark recently sent me over a little gift pack with soup bowls and spoons, and a can of the new Progresso High Fiber Homestyle Minestrone Soup.


We eat a lot of soups here for lunch. (if you read my Food Storage Friday series, you may have seen the photo with the whole shelf full of soups, lol) I can make my own, but I usually find it a lot easier with our funky schedule to just pop open a can and have warm goodness in about 10 minutes. Progresso is actually our preferred brand, even though I admit I am not overly brand loyal on soups. I find it to usually have more vegetables and be more filling than other brands. Plus, I can often score it on sale for $1 and use coupons. (Remember my post about the 16 Progresso soups and broths for $1.80 a few days ago?)

Apparently, the new Progresso High Fiber soups have 28% of the daily value for fiber in the average adult's diet. It's available in four different varieties: Creamy Tomato Basil, Hearty Vegetable and Noodle, Chicken Tuscany, and the flavor we were sent to try - Homestyle Minestrone.

The Progresso Homestyle Minestrone was chock full of vegetables, pasta, and the way they get the fiber in it - beans. Yes, lots of beans. Cheap, filling beans:


See that hot steaming goodness? One serving runs about 110 calories, and there is about 2 servings per each can. I have to say, I was pretty stuffed after eating my serving. I had that with a little roll leftover from dinner last night and I about rolled myself away from the table. LOL I like that it's filling, because otherwise you feel like you need a couple of cans to make a nice lunch, and this keeps the cost down (not to mention the calories!!) As with most canned goods, it does have a bit of unnecessary extra sodium in it, but that's the trade off with convenience. It's not as bad as it is with some soups at least!
