DVD Review: Spongebob Squarepants: Viking-Sized Adventures

My family and I recently received a copy of Spongebob Squarepants: Viking-Sized Adventures on DVD to review.

ooooooh - who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS! (You know, I have to say this is one of the most fun theme songs (kid wise) to sing along with, ever. I can't resist, even when I am in another room! lol)

My DH lit up like a Christmas tree when he saw this DVD arrive, lol. Naptime or no naptime, it was time to settle in and watch a few episodes - men! lol Spongebob Squarepants: Viking-Sized Adventures features eight Spongebob episodes including: Dear Vikings, Ditchin', Pineapple Fever, Chum Caverns, Grandpappy the Pirate, Cephalopod Lodge (try saying that one five times quickly! lol), Shuffleboarding, and Professor Squidward. They all feature the usual slapstick humor, and your favorite characters - Spongebob, Mr Krabs, Squidward, Plankton, and Patrick. It's best for the 5-6 and up crowd, though smaller kids can watch too depending on your viewing choices - the humor can be slightly annoying/borderline crass, but no bad language or bad violence.

I have to admit I did get a kick out of the ending of Ditchin', where Spongebob ditches school to meet his heroes, Barnacle Boy and Mermaid Man. As always Spongebob learns his lesson, and it's funny to see Mrs. Puff taken away for skipping Jury Duty!

Spongebob Squarepants: Viking-Sized Adventures also contains a few special features of Storyboard Panels and Character Art. This part is probably more entertaining for geeky parents than kids though.

Spongebob Squarepants: Viking-Sized Adventures hits the stores Tuesday, January 26th, 2010, and runs 88 minutes long - just about 10 minutes each episode. It's single disc, the DVD is Not Rated (though the TV show itself is rated TV-Y7), and is a full screen edition. The suggested retail price is $16.99, but Amazon has it for just $9.99 on pre-order as of this posting, while WalMart has it for $14.44.

I received a copy of this DVD to write this review, but all opinions are mine. The links to Amazon and WalMart are for your shopping convenience because I love y'all, they are not affiliate links. I am not responsible if the Spongebob theme song is stuck in your head while reading this review - lol!
