My question this week...
Do you have any tips to share with folks new to the thrifting scene?
My number one tip is to not let yourself get overwhelmed. Pick one area that you are looking for goodies in - the kids department, household, books, etc, and just stick to that department on your first few trips in. Branch out when you feel comfortable. If shopping for clothes, bring a tape measure along - just because the tag says one thing, doesn't mean it really is that size.
I told you yesterday that I would introduce you to my favorite find EVER. Well, it's more like finds, because there was a matching set! Take a look at these vintage, nearly pristine beauties:
Even the tag was even still on one of the cushions! We have the arm rest covers as well, (they're on the counter, I forgot to put them back on for the photo)
I know, I know, a lot of you probably are cringing at that red velvet, but I saw it across the store and I FLEW faster than the speed of light. Those puppies were MINE! lol I had to wait for Daddy bringing up the rear to stake out our claim on them before I could even go to the loo. I managed to use a 30% off coupon on the second chair, so one was $19.99 and the other ended up being $13.99. (Chairs, or groceries, hmmm... that's what stockpiles are for, right? LOL) We are going to need to re-arrange the living room so they fit better, because right now, there's no room! They are going to look great in there, because my living room/kitchen area is open plan, and the kitchen is painted a similar red.
I was describing them on the phone to my mommy in the store, and the best description I could come up with is that they look like they belong in a bordello. LOL!!! When DH sat down in one last night, I told him he was now pimp daddy. ;) (Yeah... we're nuts around here)
Yes, I know pretty things + kiddo + pets = disaster. But they were soooo preeeeetttty! Ideally, I'd like to move them into our bedroom, but I'm not sure they'll fit right.
So have you found anything good recently?

Our bedroom has a garish sort of gothic bordello theme and those chairs would be perfect! I am full of envy.
Those chairs are awesome! I wish I'd found them myself. A perfect pop of color for your living room!
omg LOVE those chairs! And in RED!! <3 That is awesome you found them & in such good condition...I am envious!
My favorite find to this day was on my birthday a few years back. I found a 60's/70's/vintage real red leather jacket that was like it was cut just for me. I even found concert tickets from the 70's inside the jacket pockets.
That was a great find and at a wonderful price. I bought a chair at a yard sale once. Hubby and I were just talking about what a great chair it has been. It is in my office right now and has been at my son's college apartment, my daughter's apartment and back home again.
YOU ARE SO LUCKY to get those chairs. My family had dark hunter green ones and we STILL have them, no joke, like, 40 years later. Those chairs will last you forever! We had to re-upholster them because the velvet got worn down on the edges. But those are a GREAT find! :)
