Thrifty Thursday - I've Saved On My Electricity!

This week for my Thrifty Thursday post, I want to help encourage some of you on your lower energy use to save a bit of money.

You might remember, two months ago I had a heart attack at our electricity bill. The next month ended up being even worse, just when I didn't think it was possible.

By doing just two things during the last month, we were actually able to bring it down by $5, even though it's been colder, and we've used more energy to keep the house warm. All we did was unplug the modem at night, then replug it when we were up the next morning, and switched to a floor lamp in the living room, instead of the overhead lamp. (Two light bulbs vs 6, and yet it's more light because it's right by us!)

Simple, right? I can't even say we remember to turn the modem off every night either, since it was a hard habit to get into. I'm hoping the next bill shows even more savings, since we had to use the radiator heater more this past month with the colder temps.

Need some ideas for saving on your electric bill too? Check out some of my past Thrifty Thursday posts, like this one on Lower Energy Use or Home Energy Audits.

we never turn our modem off... but that is a good idea.. and we just recently switched to a floor lamp too, but not because we were trying to save, but because it was an annoying light.. but, i almost cried when i opened our bill last month.. it has been so coooold here.. I know I will be complaining of the Texas heat in a few months (and then the bill that comes with that) but I am tired of this cold..
oh wow, that was long! The point is, I hope we see some savings next month! Good post! :)

Wish we could turn our modem off but my mom (she lives with us) works odd hours and will sometimes have to check emails and such at 2am or 4 am when the rest of us are sleeping. I was happy with my electric bill this month though, about $300 less than everyone else I talked to... but then again, we don't have central heat, just 2 wood stoves. LOL
