This special edition live action DVD release from Disney is about Buddy, a Golden Retriever who's quite the sport playing dog. In this movie, it's all about football (just in time for the Big Game!) - Buddy becomes a member of the high school football team after his owner, Josh, joins the team. Together they rock the HS football world, until the bad guys - in this case, two Russian circus owners - kidnap, or dognap I guess, Buddy. Josh's Mom's new boyfriend, who happens to be the town vet, helps Josh get Buddy back, and the two bond over it.
The movie is rated G, and contains minimal violence, which is pretty good considering football can be rather violent. Some moments may have young ones on the edge of their seat (there is one scene where Buddy appears to be hurt, also the whole dognapping idea), so if you have a kiddo easily upset at animals being hurt, do keep this in mind. It is Disney, so it's not over the top, I just know some kids are easily traumatized. I didn't catch any bad language, either.
You may actually remember this movie from a few years back, but it's the adorable bonus feature that's different. It features those cute little puppies we all oooh and ahhh over - The Buddies, who are doing Play By Play Sports Channel commentary of the big game.
Seriously, it makes me want a puppy now. LOL This Special Edition also comes with a special Air Bud sports whistle. (Moms, you may want to invest in some ear plugs... just sayin') The disc also features a trailer of the upcoming Toy Story 3, which if you are like us, you're waiting on pins and needles to see!
Trivia: Did you know there was a real Buddy? Sadly, he passed away shortly before this movie was filmed. It took four dogs to replace him.
Air Bud: Golden Receiver also features Disney's Fast Play, which allows for easy start up without a remote control (great for households like us who have seen the remote control destroyed by curious kiddos) It will be available on DVD tomorrow, February 2nd, 2010. It runs 90 minutes long, and is widescreen edition. The suggested retail price is $29.99, but Amazon has it on pre-order for $20.99.
If you'd like to view a clip of the movie, here's one (feed readers, you'll have to click through to my blog to view it, sorry!):
I received a copy of this DVD to write this review, but all opinions are mine. The link to Amazon is for your shopping convenience because I love y'all, it is not an affiliate link.
