The Sing-A-Lingo series are to help with teaching children Spanish - and in my quest to ensure our daughter is bi-lingual, I've seen lots of studies that mention that using music to teach Spanish (and other languages) is one of the best ways to do it, so I was excited for us to listen to it!
The songs on the CD are infectious and easy to sing along with and dance to. Some CDs can totally grate on your nerves after the second or third time, but this definitely isn't one of them! I even had fun dancing around with the munchkin singing. All the lyrics inside the case are in both English and Spanish, so if you are learning too, you'll know the translation. It actually contains 17 tracks to listen to. The words and phrases being taught in the songs pertain to day-to-day activities, such "Wash Your Hands" and "Open The Refrigerator", as well as fun ones like "Itsy, Bitsy Spider" and "Start Dancing".
There's some great tips on the site for helping your child(ren) learn Spanish (or any other language really). My favorite is so simple - count in Spanish each step you are taking up the stairs and backwards back down.
Sing A Lingo En Mi Casa has received plenty of praise, including the iParenting Media Award for Outstanding Product, and the Seal of Approval from both Parent’s Choice Foundation and The National Parenting Center! They also have some fun additions to help learn Spanish, including some Cards To Go and Say'N Stick notes that are really neat - you just put them on the items such as the stove etc, so when your kids are walking by or using the item, they can keep learning!
If you are homeschooling the younger set and teaching Spanish, this is definitely a fun addition to your curriculum. If you are like our family and working on being bilingual, Sing A Lingo En Mi Casa definitely gets two thumbs up! We've been listening to it almost every day since it arrived. It retails for $14.99 (plus shipping), and you can purchase your copy from their website. It's appropriate for ages 2-ish through 6, but I think the songs are just fine to start even earlier! (that might be just me though, but they are fun)
Win it! Would you like to win a copy of Sing A Lingo En Mi Casa for your family? To enter, visit their website and tell me which of the songs listed you think sound fun (there's some clips to listen to on the right hand side, too). Are you raising your kids to be bilingual too?

Okay, call me old school, but why can't we just teach all the non-English speaking folks how to speak ENGLISH, here..in the United States. You know, the same country my ancestors came too and assimilated--like learning the LANGUAGE!
That said, my kids all take Spanish, but it irks me to high hell that we cater to those who don't care to learn our country's language.
(Sorry, Storm. You got me at a bad moment.)
Oh my goodness would I love to win this! All the songs look like so much fun. I have always wanted to speak Spanish and would love for my kids to learn it.
We have very good friends from Puerto Rico and if my kids could learn Spanish, they could converse in two languages. How amazingly cool would that be?????!!!!!
Thanks so much for the chance to win!

Lin...I'm TOTALLY with you on making sure everyone can speak English. Seriously and totally 100% with that. However I do want my son to learn different languages. I wish I'd been offered different language classes when I was a lot younger (elementary school at least). By the time you get to high school your brain has a MUCH more difficult time learning new languages. I think it's just one more tool to give them a leg up in the market and world. :)
We got our boy some Putumaya CDs and LOVE them. I'll have to take a look at this one too. I have 5 years Spanish (and of course forgot everything) and it'd be fun to learn with him. :)
Oh yes, and I follow your blog. :) I think that counts for an extra entry right? lol
If I don't win you'll have to remind me about this CD so I can put it on my list of things to order for the Munchkin.
I've been to Sing-A-Lingo events and they are great
I think the song "Ponte a Bailar" sounds fun!

Thank You for this great giveaway fancyfeet45@earthlink.net
Wow. Lin's comment really rubbed me the wrong way. Did you know that children who learn a second language are more creative and better at problem-solving? Research has also found that they do better in both verbal and nonverbal intelligence tests AND achieve higher scores on standardized tests.
In opinion, everyone should speak English AND (at least) one other language. My ancestors, like most everyone's, also came from another country and I think it is a huge shame that many children have lost the language of their ancestors and only speak English - what a waste. No wonder kids in the US are falling so far behind kids of other countries where it is more common to speak multiple languages.
Anyway, as far as the giveaway is concerned, I like the song Ponte a Bailar. Thanks for the giveaway!
Hola, Amigos sounds like fun. garrettsambo@aol.com
