I've actually been on the hunt for a good dry shampoo for not only camping during the summer, but for our emergency preparedness kit at home. Long time readers may remember that last winter, our pipes froze, and I was alone at home with the munchkin, and no running water for over 4 days. It was rough - I melted snow to flush the toilet! It was a learning lesson, and we now have several containers of water ready to go for any emergency so we can flush and bathe, on top of our 7 day drinking water supply.
The worst part during those days was that I couldn't wash my hair! I was able to warm up some of the drinking water on the stove and have a sponge bath, but I couldn't wash my long hair! Not only did I feel blah from not being able to, I felt well... itchy. Itchy and icky! (It's a very good thing DH was stranded at work, I would have been even more embarrassed!) The first thing I did when the water started coming back through those pipes was hop in the shower - I couldn't get in there fast enough!!!
A lot of the other available dry shampoo's are a powder that you have to sprinkle on your hair and then comb through. That's great in the summer when you can stand outside and brush it off, but inside? I really don't want to go through the extra trouble of Swiffering the floor when I'm done. Salon Grafix's new Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo is a simple spray that you use in short bursts all over your hair, and then you brush it out. It's supposed to be quick and simple to use, and of course, no water needed.
Tip: If you have long hair (mid back), try to detangle it as best as you can BEFORE you use it. Otherwise, you will struggle to get the comb through and will feel like you have a helmet on for a few minutes. lol I found this out the hard way when I went to use it the first time.
Tip: A little goes a long way. Focus on your roots. If you overdo it, you'll be washing your hair anyways.
Tip: Use a baby wipe to wipe off any product you get on your skin.
Aren't you folks glad you have me as a guinea pig? ;) Outside of my first oops there, I ended up liking it. I did use it on hair that had not been washed in 2 and 3 days (it was killing me to make it that long, too lol) and no styling products either time. It doesn't replace real shampoo and water for long term, but for stretching out between showers (such as when you have a cast or injury and can't get an area wet), camping in the great outdoors for a weekend, or simply as part of an emergency preparedness kit, Salon Grafix's new Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo is worth the try. You can find it at places like Target, where it retails for around $6.99 for a 4 oz container.
I received a sample of the product above to test out and share my opinion of.
