Except, don't let the title fool you. I expected more about if you wore X kind of shoe, you should be more like this, and more about shoes related to every day life. I probably could have used this book more before I was married and still running my own business, because Shoeisms is more of a motivational and inspirational book for the "go get 'em!" career woman - or maybe even the PTA mom. Oh sure, there are drawings of fancy little cartoon style shoes throughout the book, and enough pink that any pink loving person will be in heaven, but it's definitely not what I expected at first.
"Introduce Shoeisms into your life and take control! Be the sassy, successful woman you know you can be!"
In Shoeisms, Ms. Canning gives you plenty of food for thought, all set into four different seasons - spring, summer, fall, and winter. (just like most of our shoes!) One of my favorite ideas and suggestions she has, is to take a few minutes every morning and write three pages in your journal - don't worry about editing, grammar, etc. Just get it all out! In the Summer section, she talks about not letting yourself be a hoarder, and it's true. We buy too much these days, and hang onto things we don't need to. Clear it out - you'll feel better afterwards. And as a reminder, hoarders aren't just limited to physical things - we're talking mental here too ladies. Those bad memories? Let it go! I know, it's hard when you've been steaming mad over something, but let it go. Yes, even those moments where you've had a run in with the coupon nazi at the grocery store - we have to let that go too. ;) It's over and done with, we learn and move on.
So if you are looking for a more fun self help book for women, Shoeisms definitely fits the bill. Some of it may be repeated common sense that we know, but Ms. Canning bundles it all into a cute looking book that is easy to read, and easy to work through. It would make a great gift for a graduating high school or college student. After I got over my initial hmmm, I'm confused moment (lol), I had plenty of "I need to do this more" moments.
Shoeisms by Veronica Canning is an oversized paperback, and retails for $19.95.
I received a copy of this book to write a review.
