DVD Review & Giveaway: VeggieTales Pistachio

My family and I recently received the latest Veggie Tales DVD, Pistachio - The Little Boy That Woodn't to review.

Long ago (in a galaxy far, far away LOL) - in the days where kids were not my thing, I remember Veggie Tales coming out, and I thought they were annoying. I had a friend who was collecting every thing she could get her hands on for "one day", and just to torment me, she bought the corgi I had back then a talking Larry the Cucumber.

I wasn't amused.

Fast forward about 10 years (*cringe*), and now that I have a munchkin, I've come to appreciate the talking vegetables. When you look at some of the junk available for kids to watch these days, I'm happy to pop on a Veggie Tales DVD because I know not only do I not have to worry about unnecessary violence or bad habits in the shows, there's an important lesson to be learned in the stories as well.

And I admit, I now have a thing for Larry the Cucumber. ;)

VeggieTales: Pistachio, The Little Boy That Woodn't is based on a very familiar fairy tale we all know, Pinocchio. In the town of Bologna-Salami (lol), a toymaker named Gelato carves a little boy out of wood and names him Pistachio. Pistachio walks, talks, and gets into a host of trouble (sound like our kids, right? lol), and the learning lesson here for Pistachio is that he must learn to listen to his father before it is too late. (which in turn teaches children to listen to their parents)

This DVD features a good wealth of bonus features for the VeggieTale obsessed, including audio commentary, "Larry Visits A Marionette Theater", an art gallery, discussion guide, and the very fun Staplers sing along, as well as a great parody song "Where Have All The Staplers Gone?" (The song will be in your head for DAYS! lol)

VeggieTales: Pistachio, The Little Boy That Woodn't was released back on March 2nd, 2010. It runs 50 minutes long, including bonus features. It's not rated, and safe for all ages, though those over the age of 5 to 6 will probably get bored. It also comes with English and Spanish subtitles, and it's full screen edition. The suggested retail price is $14.99 with Amazon carrying it for $14.97. (This is where I give you a public service announcement and sweetly suggest you support your local religious or small bookstore to purchase it since the price is pretty much the same, unless you are cashing in Amazon GC's to purchase it.)

Psst: Did you know you can fan VeggieTales on Facebook?

Win it! Would you like to win a copy of this latest VeggieTales release for your kiddos? I've got one copy to give away! To enter, tell me your child(ren)'s favorite VeggiTales character or movie.

As always, if you have completed the first entry above, you can also receive extra entries for:

-Subscribing to my feed OR following my blog
-Blogging about this giveaway with a link back
-Tweeting about this giveaway (leave the link or include @psychotichouse)

Oh my gosh I LOVE veggie tales. One New Year's eve I got together with some folks from the church, adults all, and we just watched the movies all night. It was hilarious! I'm going to try to be pretty picky with what Marshal gets to watch, but he'll definitely be allowed to watch Veggie Tales (he is obviously too young to have a favorite yet).

Oh, and I'm also an e-mail subscriber (duh!). =)

Gavin loves Bob, we weren't allowed to cut tomatoes in front of him when he was 2 or he'd cry. His favorite movie is the Lord of the Beans.

Zoey is too young to have a favorite by Larry makes her giggle the most. She loves the music and the colors. She'll be three in October and as time goes on she'll be able to articulate what she likes most about VeggieTales.
