If you're unfamiliar with Sid, he's one of the newer animated additions to PBS from the Henson Company, (yes, the same folks behind Sesame Street) Each episode starts off with Sid asking a question, usually with his parents help. He has a couple of pals that help him along the way - Gabriela, Gerald, and May, and his teacher, Susie. They find out the answers to their questions in the Super Fab Lab. The age range on Sid is the 2-5 year olds, but I'd personally peg it more as 3-6 years olds. That's not to say 2 years won't enjoy it, but I think more of the learning stuff would be lost.
Sid The Science Kid: Weather Kid Sid features four weather themed episodes: "Sid's Rainy Play Date", "Special Sunny Dad Day", "Sid's Holiday Adventure", and "The Wind Did It". "Special Sunny Dad Day" is especially an important episode, because it teaches kids all about sunscreen, and why we need to use it - which is perfect timing with the hot summer sun almost here. Trivia: Did you know that May is Skin Cancer Prevention and Detection Month? I learned something there! In "Sid's Rainy Play Date", Sid feels like the rain has come on purpose just to ruin his playdate (leaving here in WA, I think we totally feel Sid's pain LOL), and he learns were the rain comes from, and why it rains.
All in all, these episodes are a fun way for kids to learn a little more about the weather. The Sid series is entertaining, and at least they are learning a little instead of just watching well, junk.
Sid The Science Kid: Weather Kid Sid runs 115 minutes long and is not rated. (see above for an age range) The suggested retail price is $12.99, and you can order a copy from Amazon for $12.49.
