Did you know that in the United States the average age of cars and light trucks on the roads today has reached a record high of 9.4 years? Our car is even older than that I just realized (cringe!), and I can tell you, it's super important to keep up with your car's maintenance as it ages, or you'll end up with even more bills down the road. Trust me! We've bad our share our car related bad luck here!
Here's some more Did You Know trivia for you:
According to a recent survey from the Automotive Service Association, more than 54 percent of customers who take their vehicles for service and repair are women
Using a high-quality motor oil in the right grade can help maximize fuel economy
Low-quality oils that do not meet industry standards or the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements could cost consumers in the long run by potentially damaging the vehicle’s engine or possibly voiding the manufacturer’s warranty
Another reason to look to a high-quality motor oil – like Pennzoil and Quaker State - is that it is designed to meet the demands of today’s engines
Check out the Matters of Fact tips and advice section for more information on motor oil and your car.
As part of the Mother Oil Matters spark, MyBlogSpark also sent me a $35 gift card to Jiffy Lube to have our car's oil changed. Being the frugal person I (sort of) am, I made sure to do a quick search for a discount coupon for Jiffy Lube before we went in. I found this $5 one here. (If you sign up for their mailing list, and aren't in a hurry for your oil change, they do say they have more coupons they will be emailing!) We'd never been to Jiffy Lube even though our local one is located right next to Fred Meyer. (We usually go to another chain that happens to be right by our Goodwill, so we can waste time in there.)
I know when we are getting to the 3,000 mile mark with our car without even looking at the mileage - she starts to run a little funky. Don't ever be afraid to ask questions when getting your oil changed or your car worked on, folks. It's your vehicle, you are paying the tab - you have a right to know! If you don't understand, and it's not being explained, there's always Google when you get home or on your iPhone. ;)
Win it! Thanks to MyBlogSpark, one lucky reader will win a $35 gift card to Jiffy Lube! To enter, visit Motor Oil Matters and share with us one of the tips or facts that you didn't know.

I forgot to post the first entry first. DOH! *What does the API Certification Mark “Starburst” mean?*
*Oils displaying the Starburst meet performance requirements set by many U.S. and international vehicle and engine manufacturers and the lubricant industry.
*The oil meets the current engine protection standard and fuel economy requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), a joint effort of U.S. and Japanese automobile manufacturers.
* Many automobile manufacturers recommend oils that carry the API Certification Mark (“Starburst”).
