I've So Had It!

Once again, I was overcharged on something from Safeway. It's getting to the point where it is almost EVERY SINGLE grocery trip that something has scanned wrong! This time the customer service clerk argued with me and said it was right - when I had actually gone back to check it before asking for the difference back. (speaking of which, whatever happened to the if it's the wrong price, you'll get it free thing?) I made her take it off, because I was not paying the full price.

The sad part is that it no longer matters which large grocery store you shop at, they all do it. Yes, mistakes can be made with the computer and scanners, but the employees don't care - smiles are rare, and a "We're sorry for the inconvenience" is even rarer.

DH and I came home and talked about it - we're going to up our food storage and pantry. I am going to make a faux menu plan for 3 months and see how much of everything we use, and then make up a shopping list. Our goal is to only go out once a week for little things, and really good sale prices. (loss leaders) On DH's next days off, we are going to go through the kitchen and see if we can re-organize things and make more room. (have to make room before I can buy, lol)

Costco may have long lines some days, and their prices aren't necessarily the cheapest, but at least you don't have to worry so much about having the sale price or not. So I think we may be utilizing Costco more.

And it's good that it coincides with the timing of the farmers market - we can pick up veggies there until our veggie garden kicks in (hopefully!). And we'll buy fruit from the folks that sell it by the side of the road - we picked up 23 pounds of apples for just $12.95 the other day. (So take THAT lousy customer service, these folks are way nicer!)

Freddy's ad on the way.

I have been screwed over by Safeway so many times and treated really crappy by their employees, so I no longer shop there even if it's the best deal around. I have written letters to the local store manager as well as corporate and you know what? Nobody gives a shit! I do, so I am taking my hard earned dollar elsewhere. I haven't shopped at Safeway in 2 months and honestly, I don't miss the hassle one bit.

Hey, I make them get the manager if they have a problem with my coupons. I wish you could see what they are ringing up better, but I'll check my receipt even before I leave the store. They need to honor their prices listed, and they should make the sale dates larger on those little sale flags near the items they are trying to move too.

I bet it's because they get a lot of scammers and sucky customers. It sucks the soul out of the workers. But the lady should have at least checked the price before she started arguing with you!

Safeway has to be my least favorite grocery store in town. Someone else commented that they aren't coupon friendly and that is so true. They sometimes only allow one coupon per club card, even in separate transactions! Good for you for taking a stand :)
