Review & Giveaway: Aunt Nellie's

The fabulous folks over at Aunt Nellie's sent me over this great box filled with yummy goodies to review.

Working on my family's food storage, I've been in search of more options to have on hand other than the standard beans, etc.

Aunt Nellie's are glass-packed vegetables - no need to worry about BPA in the lining of cans here. While we are in potential earthquake territory here in Washington, I prefer to have glass containers whenever possible in my food storage - I loathe plastic as you know, and I can live without leaching chemicals in cans if I can help it. The vegetables Aunt Nellie's uses are harvested at their peak of ripeness to provide farm-fresh flavor in every bite. Lest you be thinking that these are the same old vegetables like peas and carrots - nope! Aunt Nellie's is a different vein - try onions and beets! They will definitely add variety to your every day meals. Here's a run down of what I tried:

Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage: Absolutely yum! You can use this as a side dish alone, or use it as an ingredient in recipes like soups or with meats.

Holland Onions: I had never tried this style of pickled onions before - I was used to the cocktail style that are crunchy. On the back of the jar is a recipe for a cream style sauce that these are just perfect in! I'm not one for trying out recipes on packaging - but this one is worth a try.

Pickled Beets: (we tried both Whole and Sliced) Most folks hear beets and cringe. I don't know what it is, but beets seem to be on the list of most hated vegetables - even with my DH. He argued with me on trying it (I like them) until I told him he had to set a good example for our daughter and try things he thinks he doesn't like. Hahaha! Guess what? Of course it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be! (Told him so!) These are something you can eat as a side dish, chilled in the summer, or you can make soups in winter, and summery side dish pastas in the summer. (The best part of beets by the way, is that they are high in folic acid and other great things we as women need especially if you are trying to get pregnant. Seriously, they are one of those foods that are really high in nutrients.)

Corn Relish: I'm saving the best of the best for last here. If you're grilling burgers, give this a try as your topping instead of the usual ketchup, mustard, etc.

You can purchase Aunt Nellie's at your local grocery store, or online through their online store. (A case of 12 jars is just $14 plus shipping, that's a really good deal!) If you're on Facebook, you can also find Aunt Nellie's there, and they can also be found on Twitter too!

Win it! Aunt Nellie's is letting me giveaway a box full of goodies, too! To enter, tell me which Aunt Nellie's goodness you'd like to try first (or your favorite, if you've had their veggies before!)

As always, if you have completed the first entry above, you can also receive extra entries for:

-Subscribing to my feed OR following my blog
-Blogging about this giveaway with a link back
-Tweeting about this giveaway (leave the link or include @psychotichouse)

That's up to four (4) possible entries! Giveaway ends May 29th, 2010 at 11:59 PST. US Only, sorry. :( Please leave your email address in your comment, or have it available in your profile so I can contact you if you've won. Winners drawn via Random.org.

I received a selection of products from the brand above to share my opinion of. The company will also be sending one winner a prize.

I didn't think I'd find myself saying this, but pickled beets. Not a beet fan, but I do believe that it's traditional to put little slivers of them on falafels. So, why not give them a try.

I love their pickled beets. I hate to say this, but when they are gone, I throw in a couple of hard boiled eggs, and have really good pickled eggs. Their pickled beets are excellent.
