Review & Giveaway: Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Products

Living in a house with only one bathroom, I can tell you that it sees a lot of traffic. ;) Of all the chores I do around the home, cleaning the bathroom is most definitely numero uno when it comes to being the most hated. If I could ignore it, I would, but I'm one of those germophobes. I've tried training my DH to do it (LOL) but I rarely succeed in convincing him to do it... and in all honestly (don't tell him I said this), but his housekeeping skills aren't the greatest. I usually end up re-doing it.

I look for products that make my bathroom cleaning job easier, I admit it. The faster I get it done, and with the less icky germs near me, the better. I'll use rags for the rest of the house, but not for the bathroom. The bathroom gets the more heavy duty cleaners. I've skimped on cleaning products for the bathroom before, especially for the toilet, and I can honestly say in my home, I'm just throwing money down the drain. In fact, I just finished a product I purchased at the Dollar Tree and it was an absolute waste of that $1 - I ended up using 3x the amount, and it STILL didn't do the job. Ew, ew, ew.

Lucky me, a box arrived with both the Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush Toilet 2 in 1 Cleaning System and the Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel in it earlier this week. I frequently buy Scrubbing Bubbles products - they go on sale often and they usually have pretty good coupon deals that I can match with it. (bonus!)

The Fresh Brush Toilet 2 in 1 Cleaning System (starter kit) comes with two different kinds of little cleaning pads - the Max for those deep cleaning days (or after your husband or teenage boys have been home... lol) and the Flushables, which basically look like little pads of toilet paper for lighter cleaning days or day to day touch ups. (Anyone with morning sickness would probably want a good supply of those!) A warning on the flushables - if you have a lousy septic system, I would refrain from flushing them, since it's like a bigger wad of plush toilet paper. I'm sure they break down alright, but having lived in a place with a less than stellar septic before, I know you still have to be careful. Anyways, both kinds helped clean my toilet with a little less ick and did the job well.

Confession: I rolled my eyes at the Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel. I kind of thought maybe it was overkill meant to make us spend more money. I don't use the bowl cleaners that hang in your toilet or actually, anything that turns your bowl blue (or any color) for more than one flush. They smell. And I know that they smell, because once you spend time with your head in a toilet bowl that's been treated with a product like that, you never ever forget that smell. I'm getting nauseous just thinking about it right now....

To get back to the Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel, the system is basically a wand that dispenses a "stamp" of cleaning gel that lasts about a week. (Each dispenser carries a 6 week supply of "stamps" - it's kind of um, funny looking, isn't it? lol) You're supposed to just push it after you put it together, and it will leave the "stamp" wherever you want in the bowl. (Preferably just under the rim where it's not noticeable) I will say that it makes a cute starry shape. lol But I struggled at first to get it to "stamp" and almost dropped it in the bowl. It eliminates odors, and it definitely does have a very light odor to it, but it's a light blue, and it doesn't turn the bowl water that tacky bright blue - it was pretty colorless in my bowl. (One word of warning: if you have pets that you think sometimes drink out of the toilet, be sure the lid is always down because the water will having chemicals now every flush) Does it make difference using it? After a few days, I'm not so sure, but I usually clean my toilet very frequently, and found this actually hampered that - I had to clean around it. It did last as advertised! In fact, at the 4 day mark, it didn't even look "worn" down to me - it looked like I had just done it.

All in all, I'll buy the Fresh Brush Toilet 2 in 1 Cleaning System refills, but the Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel doesn't really meet my family's needs - if you only clean once a week though, you'll probably find it fabulous!

The manufacturer suggested retail price for the Scrubbing Bubbles® Fresh Brush™ Bonus Pack is $5.29, which includes a durable, long lasting curved handle, two MAX pads and four Flushables. MAX refills suggested retail price (8 ct): $4.39 Flushables refills suggested retail price (12 ct): $4.39 If you're into printable coupons, right now you can visit Right At Home for a coupon for if you purchase Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel, you'll receive a Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush™ 2 in 1 starter kit or refill free!
