Review & Giveaway: Silk PureAlmond Milk

I love snacking on almonds - they are a good, healthy snack. So when I was asked if I was interested in reviewing Silk PureAlmond Milk, I figured, why not? I purchase Silk's products all the time.

Silk PureAlmond Milk actually comes in two flavors - original and vanilla. If you didn't already know, almonds are a good source of both protein and fiber. I tried the original - well, DH tried a glass of it and also used it in his cereal. He says there is a slightly different taste, almost a little sweeter, and he says it's almost better than dairy milk, especially with the fun cereals. He does say to make sure it's as cold as possible to get the best taste. Now I used it to cook - I made mashed potatoes to start off with, and even tried it with condensed tomato soup - and I can tell you, there is NO difference in recipes between PureAlmond and any other dairy alternative when cooking - your finished dish tastes just the same. Do not be afraid to try them!

If you have dairy or soy allergies, Silk PureAlmond contains neither, so it's a good choice, especially if you are craving a big bowl cereal! (Remember that almonds are a nut, so beware nut allergies!) Consider PureAlmond a vegan alternative to dairy milk. A serving of the original also runs just 60 calories, so if you are watching calories, this may be a better choice for you. (The Vanilla runs 90 calories)

A carton of Silk PureAlmond Milk will run you about $2.99ish - now depending on how much you pay for milk, this may or may not seem high to you. (Here, a gallon of organic milk runs $4.99 at Freddy's, so this is a good price to me) You can purchase it at most grocery stores including Safeway, Kroger, Fred Meyer (local peeps - I picked mine up at Freddy's, and it's on sale this week 2/$5) You can also print a coupon to save $0.75 off your purchase of Silk PureAlmond. (You'll have to sign up to print it)

Win it! Would you like to try Silk PureAlmond for free? Three lucky winners will! And even better, one
of those winners will also receive a Silk Pure Almond branded ChicoBag (a really cool grocery bag that fits into a pouch!) To enter, tell me if you're a regular buyer of Silk's products. If you've already tried PureAlmond, I'd love to know what you've thought about it. (And of course, if you haven't and you think this sounds icky, you're more than welcome to chime in! LOL)

That's up to four (4) possible entries! Giveaway ends May 15th, 2010 at 11:59 PST. US Only, sorry, and if you have won any of my DVD giveaways in the last 3 months, please let someone else have a chance. Please leave your email address in your comment, or have it available in your profile so I can contact you if you've won. Winners drawn via Random.org.

I received a coupon to try Silk PureAlmond Milk. Three readers will win the prizes stated above and fulfilled by the giveaway sponsor.

I regularly buy Silk's Soymilk but have not yet tried PureAlmond. I sure would love to try it, first in original flavor, to compare the taste to that of Soymilk.
Thank you for the giveaway :)

I bought some once for a recipe by Mark Bittman - a pudding flavored with rose water. I quite liked it. Bought a large bottle of rose water one day but haven't made it since. A bit of a luxury.
