We love Max and Ruby! If you're unfamiliar with Max and Ruby, they are an animated cartoon based on a series of children's books written by Rosemary Wells. (I love her stories!) Max is the three year old little boy, and Ruby is a seven year old girl - and both are bunnies! (I'm sure you can guess why this is one of our favorites here lol) The best part of the stories is that while brother and sister may not always get along, they work through everything without beating the snot out of each other and screaming Mom!. ;) They are always using their imagination, something else I appreciate. Each episode on TV runs about 30 minutes long, and usually contains three stories.
Max and Ruby : A Visit With Grandma contains four new to DVD episodes: Grandma's Treasure Hunt (pirates!!!), Ruby's Jigsaw Puzzle, Ruby's Recital; Ruby's Rainbow, Ruby's Home Tweet Home, Max's Mudpie; Ruby's Missing Tune, Ruby's Home Run, Ruby's Handstand; and Ruby's Good Neighbor Report, Candy Counting, Ruby's New Shoes.
All of the stories on the DVD are the usual Max and Ruby fare, where you can see Max's stubbornness (just like any 3 year old, of course) and Ruby's intelligence/imagination. It's a great DVD for the preschool set (over the age of 4 will probably get bored fast). If you have never read any of the Max & Ruby stories, I suggest visiting your local library and picking up a few to read alongside watching the DVD. They are fun, short books that make for an easy read with your kids before naptime and bedtime.
Max and Ruby : A Visit With Grandma hits the stores on June 15, 2010. It's full screen format, and runs 99 minutes long. It's not rated (safe for all ages), and there are no special features on this disk. (Visit Nick Jr online though if you are in search of printable activities and such, as they have a bunch over there last I saw!) The suggested retail price is $16.99, though as of this posting, Amazon has it for $11.99, and WalMart has it for $10.86.
