The Black Thumb Returns

It totally is so not my day.

I had moved my tray of seedlings for DH to move something off the deck (I didn't want him to knock them over) and my seedling now mostly look like this:

Wah!!! That was the longest I had managed to keep plants from seed alive, and they were doing so well! I have such a black thumb. :(

The bright side is when I was watering my survivors (poor babies!), this little guy came out to greet me:

Now he makes me happy. I've had one visiting my deck every Summer. It's the first time I've seen him - or his descendents this year.

Awww....what a cute little guy! I too struggle with "blackthumb syndrome" ... Have had it since I moved here to Arizona. Even though your little seedlings didn't make it, you obviously have a welcoming knack for nature. Your little green friend looked very happy to be there! Enjoy his visit!

I've been trying to raise plants from seeds for years. I realized this year it really helps to keep them warm, via a heating pad for such a purpose, or whatever. Last spring my seeds came up pretty well and I managed not to get the damping off problem (mold) by using commercial seed starting mix. But they seemed frozen at about 2 inches high for weeeeeks. I planted them with little hope. Well, miracle of miracles, my tomatoes are huge now and setting fruit, and the peppers, too. Don't give up hope, just read up to see what you need to do to get them going. Maybe bottles of water to absorb solar heat and hold it overnight (google wall of water). I think that helped my garden this past spring.
