It's not just that we're Henson freaks - anything from the Henson company is welcome in our home. The best thing about Sesame Street is that it's something we watched every day as kids ourselves. And the even cooler part about this DVD? I remember watching this special when it first aired way back when I was a kid in 1989! I was well past the age - I know I was in junior high - but who can resist Big Bird and the gang?
Sesame Street: 20 Years... And Still Counting! is hosted by Bill Cosby and contains footage from past Sesame Street skits, as well performances by folks like Ray Charles (singing with my beloved Kermit the Frog "It's Not Easy Bein' Green"), and interviews with the creators of Sesame Street themselves. If you'll remember, this special came out just a few months before the genius mind known as Jim Henson passed away.
Trivia: The first episode of Sesame Street premiered on November 10, 1969.
I consider Sesame Street to be the King of children's television - there can be no higher with it's furry monster puppets and learning skits. It is one of the few shows that you know you can leave on and never have to worry that something inappropriate might be said - there's a reason it's been on the air since 1969. Whether you pick up this DVD for nostalgia, or because your kids just can't get enough of Ernie and Bert, it's still a great addition to your DVD collection.
