How Often Do You?

There's a discussion that started a few days ago over on one the Amazon forums - apparently the original poster asked a very good question - How often do you use your towels?

Since the majority of folks say they use them several times - some even for a week - I'm curious. How often do you use your towels before washing them?

We only use ours once. So maybe it's not frugal, but I've seen what comes off your skin even after you've just washed. I'd rather pay the extra electricity! (Towels are one of the few things I wash in hot water) So what about you? Use 'em once? Twice?

We are a use once and wash family - even for pool towels. Just raised that way and stick to it.

For kitchen towels, every day or so. For bathroom towels, every few days. Whenever I don't feel like hanging them up on the towel rack. For pool towels, one time use then it gets washed!

For the kids' towels, we use them once and then wash them... mainly because they (ages 2 & 4) drag them ont he floor when they get out of the tub and dry off.

I wash my towel after I use about 3 times or so. Hubby uses his alot longer before he washes it... which I find icky.

My husband came from a household that used the towel once and washed. I grew up in a household, that we used the same towel for a week.
Since we've been married, he has adapted to the wash it once a week. This was not at my urging, he just always thought his mother was nuts for making him use a clean towel every time, since it's being used on a "clean" body.
However, hand towels and kitchen towels last about a day because they get far more use.

OMG. How topical - I was only Google'ing this exact question the other day!

I am with EndureMyWorld on this one. We use our bath towels for 5 days before washing. Kitchen towels go in the wash sooner and pool towels probably even less often as they're used less often.

We use ours all week long, but we have numerous towels in the mix, so I think it is less than that. I do, however, dry them in a hot dryer hoping it kills whatever is on them. We haven't gotten sick or died yet using this method.

Twice. We use different towels for our hair and body. I know my husband would probably use it more often but I put them straight in the hamper! ;)

I don't know the exact, but I am washing towels constantly. In a house of all boys except for me, there are always smudgy little finger marks and toothpaste on my towels.

I buy white ones for the bathroom so I can bleach them out and keep them looking nice longer. I swear only a couple of little boys could "wash" their hands and then get orange cheesy poof fingers marks on clean towels!

I use the one I personally dry off with twice.

My husband dries off uhm a little too thoroughly if ya know what I mean so he is REQUIRED to put his in the wash after one use.

The kids towels a couple of times before washing. The baby's towel at least 2 or 3 times, I mean, he's only 3 months old, not even.

Geez, guys. Am I glad this is anonymous. I wash kitchen towels every two or three days. Bath towels, maybe every two weeks, the hand towel in the bathroom every week. Washclothes only get used twice. Frankly, I have avoided washclothes all my life because they always seem to smell and it always turned me off. But, I'm older than you guys so my son is in college. Not quite the same as having little ones using them all the time. And, of course, we each have our own towels. And I have a dedicated bath towel, dedicated face towel, and a dedicated hand towel all my own. We don't go to the pool any more, but when we did, I definitely washed those each use - the pool is a marvelous place to pick up a zillion germs. Then again, I wash everything more frequently in the summer because they don't dry quickly and that's when the bacteria really multiplies (and hence they smell). Winter, they dry off pretty quickly so they don't smell. Pretty darn personal stuff we're sharing. Anybody else out there use towels more than once or twice? As much of a germophobe as I am, it seems a little like overkill to wash them every day if they don't look or smell dirty. Have to leave yourself time for the internet.

Good thing I'm not a germaphobe. I can hardly keep up with laundry as it is - let alone washing towels used just once. My body towel gets used for longer than a week ... a lot longer. :) I'm the only one that uses it - it gets hung up after drying off. Doesn't seem like a big issue to me. And my hair towel goes a lot longer even than that. It just gets hung up.

Hubby's towels get washed a little more often though and baby's get washed every few days (although he doesn't get a bath every single day either).

I think we're just comfy in our own dirt. hahaha

Wow, I am so glad I subscribe to your blog. I honestly thought my family was the only family that used a towel once and washed it. I'm glad to know we're not alone :)

Once in awhile we will use once and then wash it, but we also try to save on electric and water bill. (our dryer uses the most electricity in our house).

My normal routine is the towel on my head to dry my hair is the same towel I will use next time for my body. My husband, depending on how soaked he got the towel, will re use for the most part for another shower.
