The Good And The Bad

Happily, my cord for my beloved laptop arrived yesterday.

Unhappily, there's still problems. It seems that the inside where the cord fits in is bent (probably from that tumble awhile back) and you still have to jiggle the cord to get it to charge... and it has to stay perfectly still while doing so. I'm basically right back where I was before the cord went POOF!

You win some, you loose some. It doesn't do me any good to get upset about it - just deal and move on. Seriously, there are more important things in life to worry about! :)

You might enjoy my battle with Murphy's Law that we had this week. Long story...

Back in early April, our ancient desktop died.
Because we were about to move and couldn't afford to buy new, a tech friend of ours gave us his wife's old computer since he had just got her a new one.
It was slow, Windows Media Player worked when it wanted to, I couldn't download audiobooks from the library, our printer wouldn't print because the usb drives randomly would take turns deciding they didn't want to work. Since our wireless adapter was usb, it randomly wouldn't work either.
So this past Monday, I come home from work and noticed it was off. I didn't think anything about it, thinking DH had used it and just did a shutdown.
I go to use it and I get a Dell.com image on the monitor and Windows XP began to load and then the screen went black.
I tried rebooting. I hit F8 and got to the screen for me to enter safe mode, the screen went black.
WTF? I figured something was wrong with the motherboard, because all the drives worked, and it sounded like the hard drive booted. The monitor then goes into "power saver mode".

DH says, we will get you a new computer this week. No more old computers, no more hand me downs, a NEW computer. We don't even bother calling our tech friend, because he's done enough for us.

I check the sales, and DH insists on a Dell. I wanted a laptop, but I am accident prone and it realized quickly that most laptops that we could afford wouldn't be able to play Diablo III when it finally came out.

We finally agreed on a desktop, go to Best Buy and the salesperson keeps asking if we want a monitor too. We say no... we have an LCD that's only a few years old still looks great.

Get home, I set up the computer and hook up the old monitor. Nothing on the screen. Hmmmm, the lights are all on. I wiggle the monitor connection, nothing happens. I unscrew and try the connection, and DH says... hey do that again, I just saw something on the screen.
So I mess with it some more, and every once and a while we see a flash of writing and pop up boxes.
That's when we realized it was the MONITOR all along!!!

Back to Best Buy to buy a shiny new 20" LG.

Talk about frustrated. We decided not to return the new computer, and just suffer the hit to our savings.
Oh well, a new computer was in the plans, just not now.

i have cord problems with my laptop all the time!

good chance if you're having internal issues with charging port it could be an issue with the motherboard

i don't know what kind of laptop you have or how old it is, but it pays to give a call to the manufacturer.... multiple times i have had issues with cord and more than one company has repaired my laptop even if it was past warranty

I think some of the problem with laptops, is the fact that, the cords get bent, from transporting, and plugging and unplugging. I haven't had the problem yet, but I hear it is pretty common.

Cords to laptops are a thorn in my side lol. I need to take a picture of my laptop cord after a puppy got ahold of it last year. Let's just say it took my step dad soudering it and some electrical tape for it to work again. I need to buy a new one but I don't want to part with $85 right now lol.
