Yeah So...

I'm waiting to be struck by lightning because I think I have the worst luck in the world.

The bright side? The fact that the computer was sitting on my lap, and not on the bed comforter because with the sparks and smoke, we could have caught the bed on fire.

The other bright side? At least this just happened during back to school season when laptops are on sale.

I had been asking DH if I could save Amazon gift certificates for a netbook, and then this happened. So we went to a couple of brick & mortar stores in search of a netbook this morning... and WalMart had an el cheapo laptop on sale - so DH said let's just get the laptop (for him) and then I can still save for my own netbook. (I want a pink one! lol)

I can order a new power cord for my laptop, but we were very confused at which one we need. It's a Toshiba, and I LOVE it - I am not letting it go so easily. (Honestly, I feel like I am cheating on my baby right now! LOL) It's just that there are 5 million different power cord options and I had no clue which one to order last night. I think I can get a Universal one and bypass that problem, but it's like $100 (gulp!). I think DH just figured a new laptop was the lesser of all the evils right now, and the smallest headache.

All I can say is blah. I'm tired of all the bad luck! :( Of course DH is happy, because he has visions of gaming all night long right now. lol I guess another bright side is once I get the new cord, no more sharing a laptop anymore!

I WISH my laptop would die! I want to get an ipad but I need a pretty good excuse!

Hey my cord just went too... my darling son came over and he took it apart and with a little electricial tape he got it to work again. He said that the manufacturers do this on purpose, that there is no insulation on the wires and they short out (i drag my laptop all over) anyhow, its a short fix. I bought my replacement on amazon; this is what I did, i went to HP (my laptop) you Toshiba and found what I needed on their website, then I put that info into amazon and found one for 18 bucks (hp had it for 80). But then darling son of mine says, no mom, that is the complete power adaptor you only need the one cable from the laptop to that little power box and he showed me how to look and it cost me $5 bucks, 7 bucks to ship. We ordered yesterday afternoon and it shipped today. Good luck.

Wow the bad luck really is following you lately. I just bought my first lap top a few months ago. I love it and it is a Toshiba. I was looking at the note books and such but they are wy to small for my eyesite. So scary about the fire though!

That could turn out to a win win proposition. You could keep him away from your laptop. You could try the self fix method. I like the idea of going online and finding a new cable.

I wish the cable was that cheap! The cheapest one we found on Amazon was $31.96 plus shipping - ugh! Oh well, it's worth it to use her again :)

I did try the tape fix, but it was still sparking even with the tape on it, and I didn't want to take the chance that I would fry the entire laptop! (Yikes!)

he had to tape in 2 sections.... one is ground wires, so those got one wrap of electrical tape, then the other set of wires, then he taped them both together, disected the piece of rubber right next to the metal plug in thingy, and then put it over the fix (with more tape) for added stability.

My laptop has been on the verge of death for 2 years now.. I kid you not. My husband keeps saving it though.. we just don't have even 2 nickels to rub together to get me a new one. I can't work on it too long or it gets HOT! It is just all kinds of a mess!

I want a pink one too!

:)

Ok, I just asked my son exactly how he found my power cord adapter (it came in the mail today and its fits). he said you search by computer model number..... so

toshiba (model #) power cord adapter, mine is a knock off, but its fine. Good luck.
