DVD Review: Dora the Explorer: Dora's Slumber Party

My family and I recently received a copy of the new animated Nickelodeon DVD, Dora the Explorer: Dora's Slumber Party, to review.

As you may know, Dora (Owa!) reigns supreme here. Dora the Explorer: Dora's Slumber Party contains six episodes: "Boots Cuddly Dinosaur", "Louder", "The Lost City", "Little Star", "Super Babies Dream Adventure" and "Dora Had a Little Lamb".

This is a great compilation because in addition to the usual peppering of Spanish words, you can probably guess just by reading the episode titles that there is a bedtime theme going on as well - preschoolers will be learning about bedtime routines, something we all struggle to get going right. In "Boots Cuddly Dinosaur" for instance, Dora and Boots go on an adventure to try find Boots' favorite stuffed dinosaur - something I am sure most of us parents can relate to. ;) In "Louder", preschoolers will learn about their quiet voice for nighttime vs their perhaps a little louder day time voice. If you're looking for a title to prepare your child for a slumber party, this one probably isn't what you are looking for though, just as a heads up. (Though it's a good choice to be shown for a sleep over at grandparents house perhaps?)

The DVD does not contain any special features, but it has six solid episodes, so I don't think it's missed on this one. If you're on the hunt for something to go alongside it, remember you can always visit the NickJr website for printable coloring sheets and other fun activities.

Dora the Explorer: Dora's Slumber Party hits DVD shelves next Tuesday, September 14th, 2010. As usual, it's not rated, but best for the younger set - those of the age of 5 will get bored fast. It is full screen edition and runs 147 minutes long, and the suggested retail price is $16.99 (though Amazon has it for just $12.99 as of this posting.)

I received a copy of this DVD to share my opinions of. No other compensation was given, all opinions are mine and mine alone. Blah, blah, blah. ;)
