Blog Tour: Filtrete Water Station

MomCentral recently invited me to be a part of the Filtrete Water Station Blog Tour.

I've mentioned several times that I am less than thrilled with our water situation around here. Frankly, I hate it - and I really hate to say hate, but I don't know how else to sum it up. The water is really one of the top reasons why I want to move. We started off using a Brita filter, and then we moved on to the PUR filters. I change the filter out every four weeks (even though PUR says six) - well, let me just show you. I hope you can see all the particles floating in this:

I just changed the filter on the first of the month, a week ago. It sickens me that our water - living in what could be considered more of the countryside - is this dirty. I don't remember this as a child. I know we had our own well where we lived out in the country back home (we were blessed with that), and we would drink water straight from the tap. I never had the skin reactions that I seem to have now, either.

I don't want to buy case after case of bottled water - it's bad for the environment, and I don't have the storage space for it, either. I don't want to spend the money on it either when technically, water should be free, right? Bah!

I know that the PUR helps clean at least some of the junk out of the water, but it takes FOREVER. Our pitcher is too small too, and after filling one dog bowl, I'm back to waiting. That's another annoyance - because sometimes I start waiting so I can finish refilling, then I wander off so I'm not wasting time just standing there... and I forget to go back and finish refilling it. It never fails, it always happens on pasta night too so I'm stuck starting a half an hour earlier just to get enough water to boil the pasta. Can you see me banging my head over here? lol

Filtrete has a new bottled water idea called the Filtrete Water Station. It filters water directly from the tap into four reusable dishwasher safe and BPA-free water bottles in seconds. They caught my attention at the word "seconds". I can't tell you how often DH has everyone loaded in the car and he's waiting on me to join, because I'm trying to refill a bottle or two to take with us.

...Yes, that's probably one of the reasons we are always late. Sigh!

The filter is also supposed to reduce sediment and chlorine taste and odor from tap water, so I'm wondering if it would make our water any clearer than what it is now. I went looking to see who sells it online via their website, and it said no one is selling it yet - argh! So I hit up my SwagBucks and found some places there. It looks like the suggested retail price is around $42.99 - a little more steep than I was expecting, but still less than other filter setups can cost. On thr bright side, the filters do last longer than some brands - they seem to be good up to 100 gallons or 3 months. Another bright side is that the filter housing is recyclable in areas that will recycle them, AND you can purchase more bottle separately. The filters cost about $12 each - so again, a little more than other brands, but they last a little longer too.

It might be good for on the go drinking water for us, but I would still need to solve my cooking water and pet's drinking water problems, so I am still on the hunt for a way to solve our water problem.

If you are interested in trying out the Filtrete Water Station or their pitcher, click here for a printable coupon that will save you $5 off your purchase.

I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Filtrete and received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.
