Book Review: Countdown to Lockdown: A Hardcore Journal By Mick Foley

I recently received an advance reading copy of the new wrestling memoir book, Countdown to Lockdown: A Hardcore Journal by Mick Foley, to review.

Mick Foley, for those who are unaware of him, is best known for being a wrestler with the WWF/WWE and later on TNA. He's been known as "Dude Love", "Cactus Jack", and probably best known of all "Mankind" (with Mr. Socko lol) He's also written children's books, as well as been very active in charity work. My DH says he's the kind of guy you just want to sit back, drink a beer with, and just shoot the wind.

Countdown to Lockdown: A Hardcore Journal isn't the first memoir Foley has written - in fact, I think it's his fourth? - but in this one, he talks more about his jump to TNA - hence the title of the book, as well as weighing in on the tragic use of steroids in wrestling - and even more about his charity works, especially what he has been doing in the country of Sierra Leone. You'll even read about his admiration for singer Tori Amos.

While being a hardcore wrestling fan (no pun intended) will help you understand and know who Mick is talking about in parts of the book, the book is an enjoyable read for those who aren't diehard fans too. Mick has a certain kind of writing style that just seems to be pleasant to me - if you are big on grammar, I suppose, or a literary critic, you may feel differently - but to me, I felt like I was reading a blog from someone I've known online for years. (In fact, Mick actually has a blog! lol)

Hardcore wrestling fans who love the behind the scenes stories and trivia of wrestlers will love this book - it makes a good holiday gift for them. My husband, who has always been a big wrestling fan, was excited to read it, and gives it two thumbs up as a Mankind fan.

Countdown to Lockdown: A Hardcore Journal by Mick Foley is available now at your favorite local bookstore. The finished edition is hardcover (appropriate!), and runs 336 pages long. The cover price is $26.99.

I received an ARC to read in order to share my opinions of this new book title. No other compensation was given, all opinions are my own.

I used to watch wrestling back in the day and Mick Foley was a favorite. This would be an interesting book to read.
