No Chocolate Cake will remind you of songs they had back in the 90s (gulp! I'm old!), mixed up a little. There's a little bit of that catchy melody in each one of the songs, kind of like New Miserable Experience. At times, maybe it's a little too catchy - perhaps they are wanting to lean a bit more pop than the alternative rock they used to be more known for. At any rate, it's a solid release for the band if you're feeling a little bit nostalgic for those 90's again. Here's the official track listing:
1. "Don't Change For Me"
2. "I Don't Want To Lose You Now"
3. "Miss Disarray"
4. "Wave Bye Bye"
5. "I'm Ready"
6. "Somewhere Tonight"
7. "Go CryBaby"
8. "If You'll Be Mine"
9. "Dead Or Alive On the 405"
10. "Something Real"
11. "Goin' To California"
"Miss Disarray" is the first single off the CD, and a perfect choice as it sticks in your head much like "Hey Jealousy" did way back when. I'm not sure what the second single will be, but my vote goes to "Somewhere Tonight" - another solid, easy to sing along with tune.
Am I the only one wondering what on earth was up with this CD title though? lol I HAD to Google it, it was driving me nuts. It turns out "No Chocolate Cake" was the name of a rule the band created that was meant to stop the road crew from hitting on female fans. Hmmm... easy to remember, yes? Appropriate knowing what it means? *shrugs* The cover kind of reminds me of another blast from the past - Warrant's Cherry Pie. I doubt they meant to do that, and I know as time and time goes on that it gets harder to come up with something completely new for cover art. Even plain black has been done!
