So my beloved Dawn Direct Foam pump finally bit the dust after about two years of using it. (If you have no idea what I am talking about, check out frugal idea) I muttered bad things and drug DH to Target in search of a new one.
When I found it on the shelf, it looked well... funny to me. OK, so it had been two years since I had bought one, I knew the design had changed - but something else was... off. When we got home, I pulled the old one out of the recycling bin and yep, it sure had changed:
It's now smaller - 190 pumps instead of 250 - and of course, the same price as before. Grrrr! Do companies really think we are that stupid? I mean, I love me some Dawn and I'll still buy it, but it still irritates me that the bottle is smaller, so now I'll have to refill it more often. It's not the only product that's gone smaller, either - it's all over the grocery shelves. I'm tired of being told there is hardly any inflation on groceries when there really is a LOT of inflation - the only reason it's not so obvious to whomever comes up with these stats is because they are looking at something very different than us housewives and moms.

Oh I so agree with this blog! I bought something or other the other day and had it sitting next to an older package and noticed it had shrunk like 10 to 20 percent and was still the same cost or maybe a tad bit more. I think it was laundry detergent. Yea nice way to make us think there is no inflation.
I just want to know why are sizes getting smaller for goods yer we are getting larger?? lol
Oh this is so annoying isn't it? I am not one for buying packaged cheese, but there is one recipe I make which my mom taught me and she has always and forever used Kraft Deli Slices. Well, it USED to be a 16 oz package and it worked perfectly. (I make baked mac and cheese and layer the slices across a 13x9 pan for a couple layers). Then one day I made it and was short on cheese. I looked at the package- sure enough, they have reduced the package size to 12 oz, but it's still the same outrageous price!
I finally decided I just can't afford to buy two packages to make one dinner, so I hunted around and found a good substitute at Sam's Club. How annoying!
Absolutely true, there's inflation on groceries if they keep selling at the old price but in smaller quantities. The buying public isn't stupid. Hey I do the same thing with my Dawn pump as you do.
Ice Cream, even the cheap-o brands is not a half-gallon anymore either. I hate them selling vegetables at a price per piece too, instead of at price per pound.
You can bet I pick out the largest ones if they are good and fresh for the price per piece if I can't get it at a decent price per pound. I'll actually go over and weigh a price per piece item too.
