Review: Skillet Bacon Jam

Are you bacon obsessed? Would you eat anything as long as it has bacon it? I think my DH would! lol ;) I'm a little more discriminating... I love bacon, don't get me wrong, but there's a lot of things I wouldn't touch even if it did have bacon on it! And as much as I love bacon, sometimes, it gets a little tiring to make it. I know, I know, there's precooked microwaveable bacon, but hey, it's expensive, and you know me and microwaves. Plus, I'm not that keen on just cooking a few slices just for the sake of a sandwich - I don't want to clean up! (Hey, I'm honest!) Do you feel the same way? If you do, you are going to LOVE this one!

Meet Skillet Bacon Jam.

I have your full attention now, don't I? Spreadable, smoked, bacon-y goodness in a jar. Originally created by a mobile restaurant here in Seattle, Skillet Bacon Jam has even been featured on the Martha Stewart Show! They use niman ranch bacon and render it down along with onions, balsamic and other spices for several hours until it's perfect for spreading on all your favorite foods, such as sandwiches, baked potatoes, and yes, even toast. My DH was all over the jar when it arrived - we actually had to go out and buy his to-use list for making a burger creation. (Men! LOL)

Here is my DH's burger:

It tastes very bacon-y. It's not the same as a strip of bacon because of the spices, of course, but it's super yummy and you definitely taste bacon. The best part about it is that it doesn't fall off when you're eating your burger, like strips of bacon can, and it also helps hold other items on the burger. I'd love to try it on a grilled cheese next - drool. Two thumbs up!

Local folks, you can follow Skillet Street Food online via Twitter to find out where they are going to be next. I'm telling you this so you can snag your own jar of Skillet Bacon Jam! Fear not, you can also order online - a 11 ounce jar runs $13 (plus shipping). If you're in Washington, you can also snag a jar at Whole Foods, DeLaurenti’s at Pike Place, and a couple of other places throughout town. Shoot them an email: eat@skilletstreetfood.com if you have any questions.

I really want to try this, but it would cost $8.75 to cover S/H. It's tempting to order the 3 pack, but that is pretty pricey just to try something out. Sounds like a wonderful product we would enjoy though! If it's a great product, hopefully it will make it to store shelves in my area at some point.
