DVD Review: Spongebob Squarepants Season 6: Volume 2

Oohhhh... who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

My family and I recently received Spongebob Squarepants Season 6: Volume 2 on DVD to review.

Spongebob Squarepants Season 6: Volume 2 contains the second half of season six episodes. (Volume 1 was released last December - see my review here) This two disc set contains 23 animated episodes featuring your favorite characters: Spongebob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and of course, Plankton. It starts off with the episode "Porous Pockets", where Spongebob finds a rare large pearl, and becomes the richest resident of Bikini Bottom. Along with that wealth, comes a bunch of fairweather friends, who of course are only there for the money and leave when the money runs out. Will Patrick be his best friend again?

If you've been purchasing any of the stand alone Spongebob titles that have come out over the last year (Viking Sized Adventure, Triton's Revenge, etc), you'll notice some episode duplication - of course. If you're trying to decide between the stand alones, and seasons discs, I always vote to just snag the seasons unless you are trying to curb your kids watching 13-14 episodes in a row - oh, and unless you're a diehard and need EVERYTHING Spongebob! lol (You'll be missing out on some of the special features the stand alones had, but from a kids point of view, I don't think most really care)

Now before you panic, Spongebob Squarepants Season 6: Volume 2 does contain some special features too: "Bollywood Bob", a short music feature of people dancing to the Boolywood version of the Spongebob theme song (worth a couple of laughs from us parents), "How to make Spongebob Squarepants", where kids can do a craft of making their own Spongebob out of a real sponge, and several of the "The Clash of Triton" Shorts, which are kind of recycled from the Triton's Revenge stand alone earlier this year.

As usual, the humor in the Spongebob series may be an acquired taste where parents roll their eyes, but there are no bad words and no extreme violence to be worried about. The cover of Spongebob Squarepants Season 6: Volume 2 is embellished, just like Volume 1 was, so it makes a pretty stocking stuffer. ;)

Spongebob Squarepants Season 6: Volume 2 hits the streets this Tuesday, December 7th, 2010. The two disc set's total running time is 265 minutes, and it's not rated (best for ages 4-10ish). The discs are full screen. The suggested retail price is $26.99, but Amazon has it available on pre-order for $19.99 as of this posting.

I received a copy of this DVD to view and share my family's opinions of it. No other compensation was given, and all opinions of course, are my own rambling thoughts, and not that of Nickelodeon's.
