Giveaway: Taste of the Wild

Last March, I reviewed a pet food brand called Taste of the Wild. You can go read it, we'll wait for you. ;)

Taste of the Wild is a brand of dog and cat food available at your favorite pet food supply store. Unlike many other brands, the first ingredient is meat, followed by meat, and usually even more meat. Pets are animals, and that means they are carnivores - the first ingredient in their food needs to be meat, and not just meat by products. (Trust me when I say, there's a BIG difference!) All of Taste of the Wild's products are grain free, which make it a good choice for dogs suffering from food allergies. (If your dog is constantly scratching, or licking their paws raw, it could be an allergy - you might want to bring it up with your vet on the next visit) And though I just mentioned dogs, Taste of the Wild is also available for cats, too! My two cats that are kibble eaters just gobble it up!

Taste of the Wild has come out with a new flavor variety for cats and one for dogs.

Sierra Mountain Canine has the main ingredient of roasted lamb. It also contains Sweet Potato, which I always say is a good choice for couch potato dogs. (lol) Because this variety has a lower protein and fat content, if you are fighting the battle of the bulge with your dog, this one could be a good choice to help bring your dog's weight down, while still ensuring they are eating a healthy diet. It also contains taurine to protect heart health, something you really want as your dog is aging.

For cats, there is the new Canyon River Feline. This one contains with trout, salmon and sweet potatoes as the main ingredients. It's also good for couch potato cats, which let's face it - most cats are. Yes, even one of mine. (Magick) He's over twenty pounds of chubby cat. (We're working on that!) And if you have a cat who also happens to have a sensitive stomach like Magick, you could try this new formula and see if it helps any with the lower protein and fat content.

For my local folks, head on over to Naturally4Paws in Silverdale, or Mud Bay over in Gig Harbor to purchase these and other quality brands of dog food. Both stores equally rock - we shop at both all the time! - and they'll set you up with sample bags of Taste of the Wild's products (or other brands) for your pet so you can see which variety is right for you.

Win it! The folks over at Taste of the Wild have a great prize package they'd like to giveaway to one lucky reader! You'll be able to choose from the dog prize package, which includes three sample bags of the new dry formula; six samples of Bright Bites Daily Dental Treats (based on the size of your dog(s)); $30 gift card to DoggyFood.com and a set of Outward Hound Fold-N-Go Port-A-Bowls. The cat prize package contains three sample bags of the new dry formula, a $30 gift card to HarlosHealthypets.com and a Bergan TurboScratcher Cat Toy. (Cats LOVE this! Don't place it in your bedroom though, you'll go insane at night... trust me. LOL!)

So, to enter, tell us which prize you'd choose (dog or cat), and tell us about the pet! Do you already feed Taste of the Wild?

As always, you can receive extra entries for:

-Subscribing to my feed OR publicly following my blog
-Blogging about this giveaway with a link back
-Tweeting about this giveaway one time (leave the link in your comment below or @psychotichouse) example:
Win Taste of the Wild pet food http://tinyurl.com/2c6jdov ends 12/18 @psychotichouse

That's four (4) possible entries! Giveaway ends December 18th at 11:59 PM PST, and please leave your email address in your entry or have it available in your profile. US only, sorry :( Good luck everyone!! :)

I didn't receive anything to share this post with you. All opinions are my own, yours may differ. If you are considering switching brands of dog food from your usual, please be careful, and do the switch slowly. If your dog doesn't want to eat it, don't force them. Many good pet food stores will take back an open pet food for in store credit if your pet doesn't like it! One reader will win the prize mentioned above, as fulfilled by the giveaway sponsor.

I've never heard of Taste of the Wild, but I'd like to try it for our dogs. We have two. Rye is a Cairn Terrier, and the old man of the house. We've just recently adopted Chewbacca, a min pin/dachshund mix who is in that awkward not a puppy not a dog stage. He's long, he's hyper, and he's lovey.

Taste of the Wild is new to me also -- I would choose the dog package as I have a dachshund named Roscoe who is just over 1 year old.

no, first time I heard of the brand. Hard to say - I have friends with both cats and dogs (so I'll choose if/when I win) :) Her dog is a bundle of energy, and her cats are cute little furballs (ok, so I'm more of a dog person!)

I have seen this brand at the local pet store but haven't purchased it for my dog, although I have thought about buying it. Looks like a good brand. I would choose the dog package. My dog is full of energy and always wants to play.

we would love either the cat or dog , my dog is amazing ,Troy a yellow lab, and the kitten well he will be here on christmas eve we adopted him!!

We have three Cat's and two dogs, but I think That if I won this most of it would go to the newest member of the family. a 4 month old cat that adopted us ( she walked right in our house. She was one of a litter of strays, she decided that should change!) Named lil' bit. She loves being held but is still a wild playful thing when she want's to be (She's climbed the Christmas tree quite a few times already, and had to be squirted for it!) As for Taste of the Wild, I've never heard of it before today, but we love giving our pets new things.

I'd choose the dog version, thanks. Haven't heard of Taste of the Wild yet (but just now did find some local dealers via their website).

My whippet Bo really goes crazy for the grain-free dry dog food. He appreciates the extra energy it gives him for power napping. *smile*
