Review & Giveaway: YesterYear Soap

I recently had the chance to try out the handcrafted soap from YesterYear Soap Company.

YesterYear Soap Company makes natural, organic, and herbal soaps all in small batches, with fresh ingredients. They do not use any synthetic dyes or fragrances, and instead their soaps are scented with essential oils and colored with organic herbs and plant extracts only. This means not only are their soaps much more environmentally friendly than your average off the shelf mass marketed bar soap, it means it is much more gentle on your skin.

They sent me one of the grapefruit and mint soaps, and one of the Vanilla Strawberry bars. As you can see, all of their soaps are hand cut, so no two bars are cut alike:

When the package arrived, I could already smell a faint hint of fragrance - by the time I opened it up, I couldn't wait to take a shower using the Vanilla Strawberry! The smell is absolutely heavenly! This bar was made with olive oil, coconut oil, and soybean oil. I'm not new to the world of handcrafted soaps, and I can honestly tell you there's a difference between the mass market bars and hand crafted bars - the difference may be subtle depending on how sensitive your skin is to begin with, but once you start shedding the chemicals, your body will usually be much happier for it.

The scent of the grapefruit and mint bar is very refreshing - it's the perfect morning pick me up. My DH said he preferred the scent of this one over the vanilla strawberry to wake himself up. Now I've mentioned on my blog before that my DH is a scent fiend, and loves his bath products, so the fact that I FINALLY managed to get him to use a handcrafted bar was a major victory! lol

Each one of their roughly 3.5 oz bars retails for $4.99, and they have different scents to choose from if the ones I tried out aren't your thing. The soaps from YesterYear make perfect stocking stuffers, and right now they have $5 flat rate shipping on all orders under $100. If you join their mailing list, you will also be entered to win a free soap!

As a history geek who wants to see everything preserved, I also appreciate that this company took several historical cabins that were falling apart log by log, and then moved them to their property, reassembling them exactly as they once stood over 150 years ago. The soap that they make is created from the same recipes used over 100 years ago. (Remember, once upon a time, us housewives created our own soap for our families. It really has become a lost art!)

Win it! One lucky winner is going to win a prize from YesterYear Soap Company! To enter, check out YesterYear Soap Company, and tell us what you'd like to have under your tree this holiday season!

As always, you can receive extra entries for:

-Subscribing to my feed OR publicly following my blog
-Blogging about this giveaway with a link back
-Tweeting about this giveaway one time (leave the link in your comment below or @psychotichouse) example:

That's four (4) possible entries! Giveaway ends December 25th at 11:59 PM PST, and please leave your email address in your entry or have it available in your profile. US only, sorry :( Good luck everyone!! :)

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. All opinions are my own.

Well, the Year of Soap gift assortment would be really nice. I wish their website listed all the individual bars instead of just categories like floral, earthy, etc.
