Save the Date is a contemporary novel about Lucy, who starts off the story crushed when the perfect man - or so she thought - put his career first instead of proposing to her like she thought he was planning to. (Ouch!) Fast forward two years, and she spends all her time continuing to work with the Saving Grace shelter, a faith based home for young ladies who have made their way through the foster care system and are starting out on their own. (side note: this is a real place) Suddenly the rug is pulled out from under her feet when Sinclair Hotels cuts their funding to the home by 40% thanks to the economic situation. Since Sinclair Hotels is their biggest donor, it spells doom.
Lucy is bound and determined to fix this problem, no matter what it takes. Alex Sinclair, who is a former pro football player, and went to a prestigious school with Lucy the outcast, just happens to be the heir to Sinclair Hotels' fortune. Since he also just happens to be running for Congress, and needing an edge, he cooks up a grand scheme so they both get something they want: Lucy gets the money to keep Saving Grace running, and Alex gets himself a "fiancee", which would help him win crucial votes in a tight race.
Jab for jab sums up the "relationship". Alex has changed since school - and his football career - but Lucy and her spunk doesn't want to see that. Can Lucy continue to play the loving fiancee, or will she throw in the towel? Was this all of God's plan? Will Saving Grace stay open? Will Alex and Lucy end up something more?
You'll just have to read the book to find out. ;) You know I can't give away all the good stuff! I usually shy away from romances set in the present day, but I found myself giggling in parts of the story. I admired Lucy's character, and I loved what she was doing at Saving Grace. The book isn't overwhelming in the religious department; it has just the right balance, and Lucy's faith does shape her character. It also contains a short reading group guide with 13 touch points/discussion questions.
If you head on over to the author's website, you can read the prologue right now to get an idea of the story.

Blessings,
Thank you for the review, Psychotic Housewife. I also appreciate your link to Saving Grace, a wonderful home for girls who've graduated from foster care with no support.
